Chicago, Illinois, United States Urban Growers Collective Full time
Job OverviewAbout Urban Growers Collective
Urban Growers Collective (UGC) is dedicated to utilizing urban agriculture and community food system development to address inequities and structural racism that hinder communities of color from achieving healthy and fulfilling lives. UGC creates nurturing environments in historically underserved neighborhoods, paving the way for freedom while enhancing residents' health, economic opportunities, healing, and creativity through urban farming.

As a Black- and woman-led 501(c)(3) organization, we assert that attaining food justice is a crucial initial step in healing the historical trauma faced by communities of color, fostering resilience, and ultimately achieving liberation. While our focus is on agriculture, UGC adopts a comprehensive approach. Our eight farms span over 11 acres primarily on the Southside of Chicago, IL, producing over 25,000 pounds of fresh produce each year, facilitating food access for tens of thousands of food-insecure individuals and providing safe, healing spaces for educational and enriching experiences through public workshops, workforce development, and land stewardship.

Currently, UGC is preparing to launch a new renewable energy facility and hub for urban agriculture and green employment on the South Side of Chicago, known as the Green Era Campus. Through this initiative, we aim to revitalize long-neglected communities, establish a sustainable model for a just food sector, and redefine possibilities for local food systems.

Position Summary
The Green Era Education Coordinator will be tasked with creating and executing initiatives that foster environmental sustainability and STEM education within the Green Era Campus (GEC) and the surrounding community. This role will involve collaboration with various stakeholders, including students, educators, and external partners, to raise awareness and engage students, the community, and organizations in environmental and STEM-related activities. The Coordinator will work closely with program staff and partners to develop and implement a curriculum that engages participants in hands-on learning experiences in sustainable food production and renewable energy. This position requires a high level of public engagement, necessitating skills in teaching, working with youth, volunteers, and community members, as well as the ability to network and inspire diverse audiences.
