Penn Medicine is currently seeking a full-time, day-shift Inpatient Unit-Based Clinical Pharmacist specializing in Neuro at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania (HUP).


Work Schedule:
Day shift from 6:45 AM to 3:15 PM

The Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania (HUP) serves as the flagship facility of Penn Medicine, located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

The Inpatient Pharmacy Department at HUP supports over 950 inpatient beds across our main campus and the HUP Pavilion.

Opened in October 2021, the HUP Pavilion features over 500 beds and a two-floor emergency department with round-the-clock pharmacy services.

The Inpatient Pharmacy Department provides support for various clinical service lines, including critical care (ED, SICU, MICU, Neuro ICU, CT ICU, CICU, and CCU), surgical (cardiac, thoracic, GI, ENT, neuro, vascular, and urologic), neurology (including an epilepsy monitoring unit), solid organ transplants (heart, lung, liver, kidney), oncology (both solid and liquid), hematopoietic cell transplant and cellular therapy, women's health, neonatal intensive care, and internal medicine.

Furthermore, pharmacists are integral members of the medical emergency response team.


The Inpatient Pharmacy Department also oversees numerous operational areas, including 47 operating rooms, a new sterile compounding suite, and various Pharmacy Satellites (ED, Neonatal, OR, and ICU).

Our decentralized pharmacy model enables pharmacists to engage in bedside rounds and collaborate with interdisciplinary teams on transitions of care, including medication reconciliation during admissions and discharges.

HUP also offers discharge medication services through the MyPennPharmacy (MPP).

The Inpatient Pharmacy Department is excited to recruit Unit-Based Clinical Pharmacists for Neuro.

Unit-based clinical pharmacists are expected to work every fourth weekend and one summer and one winter holiday, as well as every other Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

Each pharmacist is eligible for $600 annually in educational fund reimbursement for professional development and $8,000 per year in tuition assistance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepares and dispenses medications utilizing appropriate techniques to ensure optimal drug therapy outcomes while adhering to health system policies and procedures.
  • Provides timely and relevant responses to drug information inquiries from healthcare providers and patients.
  • Ensures continuity of pharmaceutical care across acute and ambulatory patient-care settings.
  • Participates in the assessment, management, and reporting of adverse drug events (ADEs).
  • Engages in the management of medical emergencies.
  • Takes responsibility for compliance with medication-use policies and guidelines.
  • Effectively manages time to fulfill practice responsibilities.
  • Complies with all accreditation, legal, regulatory, and safety requirements relevant to the practice setting.

Qualifications:

  • Current pharmacist license in Pennsylvania or eligibility for licensure (required).

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy or Doctor of Pharmacy from an accredited College of Pharmacy (required).
  • PGY-1 Pharmacy Practice Residency or two years of practice experience (preferred).
  • PGY-2 Pharmacy Practice Residency (preferred).
