Penn Medicine is currently seeking a full-time, day-shift Inpatient Unit-Based Clinical Pharmacist specializing in Neuro at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania (HUP).


Work Schedule:
Day shift from 6:45 AM to 3:15 PM

The Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania (HUP) serves as the flagship facility of Penn Medicine, located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

The Inpatient Pharmacy Department at HUP caters to over 950 inpatient beds across both the HUP Main Campus and the HUP Pavilion.

The HUP Pavilion, which opened in October 2021, features over 500 beds and a two-floor emergency department with 24-hour pharmacy services.

The Inpatient Pharmacy Department supports various clinical service lines, including critical care (ED, SICU, MICU, Neuro ICU, CT ICU, CICU, and CCU), surgical (cardiac, thoracic, GI, ENT, neuro, vascular, and urologic), neurology (including an epilepsy monitoring unit), solid organ transplant (heart, lung, liver, kidney), solid oncology, liquid oncology, and hematopoietic cell transplant and cellular therapy, women's health, neonatal intensive care, and medicine (pulmonary, GI, internal medicine, and advanced medicine).

Additionally, pharmacists play a vital role in the medical emergency response team.


The Inpatient Pharmacy Department oversees numerous operational areas, including 47 operating rooms, sterile compounding in a state-of-the-art sterile compounding suite, and Pharmacy Satellites (ED, Neonatal, OR, and ICU).

Our decentralized pharmacy model enables pharmacists to engage in bedside rounds and collaborate with interdisciplinary teams regarding transitions of care, including medication reconciliation during admissions and discharges.

HUP also offers discharge medication services through the MyPennPharmacy (MPP).

The Inpatient Pharmacy Department is excited to recruit Unit-Based Clinical Pharmacists for Neuro.

Unit-based clinical pharmacists are expected to work every fourth weekend and one summer and one winter holiday, along with every other Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

Each pharmacist is also eligible for $600 annually in educational fund reimbursement for professional development and $8000 annually in tuition assistance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepares and dispenses medications using appropriate techniques to ensure optimal outcomes of drug therapies while adhering to the health system's policies and procedures.
  • Provides clear, relevant, and timely responses to drug information inquiries from healthcare providers and patients.
  • Ensures continuity of pharmaceutical care across acute and ambulatory patient-care settings.
  • Participates in the established processes for assessing, managing, and reporting adverse drug events (ADEs).
  • Engages in the management of medical emergencies.
  • Takes responsibility for compliance with medication-use policies and guidelines.
  • Effectively manages time to fulfill practice responsibilities.
  • Adheres to all accreditation, legal, regulatory, and safety requirements relevant to the specific practice setting.

Qualifications:

  • Current pharmacist license in the state of Pennsylvania or eligibility for licensure (required).

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy or Doctor of Pharmacy from an accredited College of Pharmacy (required).
  • PGY-1 Pharmacy Practice Residency or two years of practice experience (preferred).
  • PGY-2 Pharmacy Practice Residency (preferred).
