Job Overview

Opportunity

WSP is seeking a full-time Vice President of Cost Estimation to join our team. This role is essential for delivering precise cost assessments, which involve the collection and evaluation of financial resources, timeframes, materials, and labor necessary for complex project estimations using various delivery methods. Additionally, this position includes oversight of estimates prepared by junior personnel.

Your Contributions

Key Responsibilities:
  • Evaluate and define the scope of work based on existing conditions, plans, and specifications throughout all design and construction phases.
  • Conduct thorough quantity take-offs for diverse construction systems and materials, including gathering labor rates, taxes, and insurance requirements for estimate formulation.
  • Prepare contractor-level construction cost estimates and develop the basis of estimates as directed by the Estimating Manager.
  • Ensure all estimates are precise and account for all potential risk factors.
  • Review designs and specifications for cost efficiency and propose suitable alternatives.
  • Generate detailed, market-driven owner’s cost estimates for scope modifications, project delays, etc., for assigned projects.
  • Support Resident Engineers and Project Managers with change analysis and the development or validation of control budgets.
  • Maintain awareness of all contract issues and project stakeholders.
  • Engage in negotiations with clients and contractors to address contract modifications and claims.
  • Participate in reconciliations with clients or third parties.
  • Undertake additional duties and projects as required.
Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:
  • Over 10 years of relevant experience in transit cost estimation (facilities, systems, infrastructure).
  • Experience in architectural and MEP estimation is advantageous.
  • More than 10 years of experience in architectural/heavy civil/structural/utility components for infrastructure and transportation projects.
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant engineering field (e.g., Civil Engineering), Construction Management, or a related discipline.
  • Proven experience in managing complex multi-year/multi-million dollar projects and programs.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in developing cost estimates from conceptual through bid documents using spreadsheet software, HCSS Heavy Bid, Sage Timberline, or similar applications.
  • Strong familiarity with On-Screen Takeoff or BlueBeam software and MS Office applications.
  • Ability to show progressively increasing responsibility in estimating, working effectively with minimal supervision.
  • Exhibit responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company resources and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies.
  • Proven commitment to workplace safety and compliance with WSP's health, safety, and drug/alcohol policies.
  • Preferred Qualifications:
  • Familiarity with HCSS HeavyBid estimating software.
  • Estimating certification from AACEI or ASPE.
  • Experience in construction contractor estimating.
