About the Role

As a Security Specialist at the U.S. Department of Energy, you will play a critical role in the clean energy revolution and contribute to the fight against the climate crisis. This position offers a unique opportunity to make a meaningful impact in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Evaluate responses to interrogatories and provide recommendations for further action.
  • Arrange for psychiatric and/or psychological determination under appropriate authority to obtain competent medical opinion concerning unresolved security concerns.
  • Conduct status checks in response to inquiries from others and answer inquiries from the public and private sectors.
  • Maintain Personnel Security Files in the correct format and ensure accountability of all Personnel Security Folders.
Requirements
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or National.
  • Subject to satisfactory security and suitability requirements.
  • May be required to successfully complete a probationary period.
  • Positions may be covered by a bargaining unit.
  • This position does not support 100% remote work.
  • This position is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) subject to applicant testing and random drug testing thereafter.
  • A preliminary background check must be completed before a new employee can begin work.
  • This position has been designated as Critical-Sensitive and requires a security clearance at the Q level.
Qualifications

You must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal Service. Specialized experience for this position includes ALL of the following:

  • Evaluating responses to interrogatories and providing recommendations for further action in the case.
  • Arranging for psychiatric and/or psychological determination under appropriate authority to obtain competent medical opinion concerning unresolved security concerns.
  • Conducting status checks in response to inquiries from others and answering inquiries from the public and private sectors.
  • Maintaining Personnel Security Files in the correct format and ensuring accountability of all Personnel Security Folders.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience. Examples of qualifying unpaid experience may include: volunteer work done through National Service programs (such as Peace Corps and AmeriCorps); as well as work for other community-based philanthropic and social organizations. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills; and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
