About the Role
This position is pivotal in leveraging a scientific methodology to advance bakery research initiatives, encompassing grain processing, ingredient innovation, applications research, and technical support while orchestrating experiments for research teams. The role requires collaboration across various research facilities in the United States and close interaction with business development to align with organizational objectives. This is a permanent role reporting to the Senior Research Manager.
- Lead the development of new bakery products and other food items utilizing specialty grains, proteins, dough enhancers, mold inhibitors, emulsifiers, and gluten-free or egg-free systems.
- Collaborate with suppliers and contract manufacturers to innovate processes and new ingredients.
- Oversee research and development workflows to introduce products that embody Glanbia's innovative ethos, mentoring scientists in creating new ingredients or process solutions that enhance profitability.
- Manage the daily operations of the bakery R&D applications team, emphasizing collaborative prototype development and providing technical assistance to sales teams and clients.
- Identify optimization opportunities that may lead to the development of intellectual property through patents.
- Engage in travel to clients and production facilities for technical and processing support related to Glanbia's bakery and grains sectors.
- Prepare and deliver technical presentations, offering support during trade exhibitions.
- Conduct technical training for business development, sales, and plant personnel in fundamental bakery and grain chemistry, as well as baking and milling processes.
- Familiarize with laboratory protocols and FSMA regulations, working closely with quality assurance to support clients.
- Continuously pursue personal and team development to build an effective workforce.
- A Master's degree (M.A.) or equivalent experience; or four to ten years of relevant experience and/or training; or a combination of education and experience.
- ACF certification as CMPC, CMC, or CEPC is a plus, alongside relevant education and experience.
- In-depth knowledge of the physicochemical and functional characteristics of various bakery ingredients and systems.
- Experience in commercial baking environments and familiarity with grain processing, particularly milling, sifting, and heating.
- Proficient in writing articles and speeches that adhere to established styles and formats.
- Understanding of diverse baking methodologies.
- Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently.
- Capability to collaborate across departments and regions.
- Strong analytical skills to address a wide range of intellectual and practical challenges.
- Proficient in mathematical concepts, including probability, statistical inference, and geometry.
- Competent in personal computer applications, including email, record keeping, database management, word processing, and spreadsheets.
- Effective presentation skills for diverse audiences, including management and public groups.
- Willingness to travel regularly to support bakery and grains operations.
