We are seeking an experienced professional to serve as the Head of Collections Control within the Acquisitions and Collections Control unit (ACCU) in Special Collections Technical Services (SCTS) at the Beinecke Rare Book and Manuscript Library. Reporting to the Associate Director of Acquisitions and Collections Control, the Head of Collections Control will supervise a team responsible for logistics related to the tracking, movement, and physical management of special collections materials.
Key Responsibilities- Manage a team responsible for the day-to-day activities of the unit, including monitoring progress of assignments and projects, assessing and resolving problems, and recommending new and updated policies and procedures.
- Collaborate with University personnel to define work assignments and requirements, communicate progress of work, and plan and coordinate projects.
- Supervise a staff of exempt and non-exempt employees, responsible for recruitment, onboarding, ongoing training, and staff development.
- Establish policies and best practices for physical processing, on-site shelving, and management of routine and specialized vendor transfers.
- Implement systems and tools for enhanced chain of custody tracking and space management for SCTS and collaborate with other units to ensure alignment on these strategies.
- Minimum requirement of Bachelor's Degree in related field and five years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Ability to identify problems, think creatively, and carry out solutions independently and as part of a group or team.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to explain complex concepts and systems to staff with differing levels of expertise.
- Strong organizational skills to handle multiple priorities and maintain progress.
- Demonstrated ability for supervising others and managing high-performing staff.
- Working knowledge or experience with collection management in an academic/research library, related to special collections.
- Working knowledge or experience with logistics supply chain management.
- Experience with art handling or specialty moving services.
- Familiarity with ArchivesSpace, ILS, or other similar collections management systems.
