Job Summary

As a Banquet Captain with Compass Group Careers, you will be responsible for ensuring the smooth execution of catering operations at the Kellogg Conference Center on the campus of Gallaudet University. Your duties will include organizing events, managing inventory, maintaining reports, and coordinating with clients to meet their needs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Set up events according to established protocols and ensure that all necessary materials are available.
  • Assign tasks to service staff, including breakdown and setup, and design the sequence of service based on the type of meal.
  • In the absence of the Director, coordinate, control, and organize staff to maintain standards of service.
  • Monitor and maintain all banquet areas to ensure they are clean and hazard-free.
  • Control payroll and maintain necessary records.
  • Maintain constant interaction with clients to ensure their satisfaction.
  • Coordinate services required by the Stewarding Department, Convention Services, and Kitchen.
  • Maintain the highest levels of quality performance by waiters at all times, providing consistent reinforcement and training to guarantee success.
  • Maintain presence on the floor to ensure that functions flow smoothly and without incident.
  • Ensure all Banquet Checks are signed and posted timely and accurately.
  • Conduct pre-meal briefings for all events with team members.
  • Act as the client liaison with all operational departments.
  • Ensure guest satisfaction is achieved through effective supervision and delegation of responsibilities, checking on food quality and courteous performance of the entire banquet staff.
  • Ensure meal periods of events are set up on time and to predetermined standards.
  • Maintain equipment and practice proper sanitation.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • Experience as a banquet/catering captain or similar role.
  • Experience in restaurants, hotels, corporate dining, education, military, healthcare, and/or related food service operations.
  • Computer skills and knowledge of MS Office products, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and internet.
  • Associate's degree in Hospitality is preferred.
