We are in search of a Heavy Civil Estimator to enhance our skilled team and contribute to our mission of constructing the groundwork for future generations.

Position Overview:

The Estimator will be integral to our project planning and execution phases, concentrating on cost estimation, bid proposal development, and the initial phases of project management for our grading, paving, and bridge construction initiatives. This role demands a blend of technical expertise, analytical capabilities, and strong communication skills to ensure precise and competitive project bidding.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Cost Estimation & Bidding: Generate precise and competitive cost estimates for grading, paving, and bridge construction projects by scrutinizing project drawings, specifications, and relevant documentation. Formulate preliminary project timelines.
  • Project Evaluation: Conduct comprehensive assessments of potential projects to ascertain feasibility, risk, and profitability. Collaborate with the project management team to synchronize project goals and strategies. Develop a project risk matrix and devise risk mitigation plans.
  • Vendor & Subcontractor Engagement: Coordinate with vendors and subcontractors to solicit and assess bids, ensuring all estimates reflect current pricing and availability of materials and labor. Execute quote comparisons and provide recommendations for selection.
  • Client Engagement: Interact with clients throughout the bidding process to clarify project specifications, modifications, and to cultivate robust professional relationships. Present and elucidate project proposals to clients, designers, and operations teams.
  • Documentation & Reporting: Maintain comprehensive records of all estimations, bids, and initial project specifications to guarantee transparency and accuracy in project initiation. Assist in managing historical cost databases, bid management, and estimating software.
  • Team Collaboration: Collaborate closely with project management, engineering, and construction teams to ensure smooth transitions from estimation to execution.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in estimation within the heavy civil construction field, particularly with grading, paving, and/or bridge projects.
  • Proficient in estimation software (e.g., Agtek Gradework, Highway, Underground and Materials, AutoCAD, HCSS HeavyBid, and/or Bid2Win, Bluebeam Revu).
  • Strong proficiency in Excel and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • In-depth understanding of construction processes, materials, and contemporary industry standards.
  • Exceptional analytical, organizational, and negotiation skills.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Able to work effectively in a team setting and manage client interactions professionally.
  • Capable of handling multiple bids and projects concurrently under tight deadlines.
  • Willingness to travel within local regions.
  • Recent experience with DOT estimating.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with Design-Build projects.
  • Familiarity with AASHTOWare.
  • Experience in cross-section and mass haul analysis.
  • Previous field experience in surveying and/or project management.
Physical Requirements and Work Environment:
  • Ability to sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, walk, and stand; capable of frequently lifting and/or moving up to 10 lbs. and lifting and/or moving up to 50 lbs.
  • This position necessitates in-person work.
  • Professional, business casual office environment.
