About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Recreation Supervisor to join our team at the Chico Area Recreation and Park District. As a Recreation Supervisor, you will be responsible for planning, organizing, and supervising a wide variety of activity functions and community recreation programs and projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement program procedures, budget, marketing, facility management, and supervise full-time, part-time, and temporary personnel.
  • Use professional judgment in initiating and revising programs that conform with community need and departmental resources.
  • Direct operation of assigned sites and staff, consistent with the District's mission.
  • Manage Camps, Classes, and seasonal Ice Rink, including day-to-day operations and providing educational programming and outdoor recreation opportunities.
  • Plan, coordinate, and implement broad and varied recreation programs, including activities, special events, teens, afterschool programs, youth and toddler classes, camps, and leisure classes.
  • Administer agreements with private instructors and/or contractual officials, school districts, and city offices.
  • Consult with individuals and groups to determine their recreational interests, needs, and desires.
  • Monitor registration and coordinate with local agencies and community groups regarding program offerings and coordination of services.
  • Supervise and evaluate full-time, part-time, temporary, and volunteer staff, including recruiting, interviewing, selecting new employees, training, assigning, planning, and reviewing work.
  • Plan and conduct in-service training programs in assigned phases of responsibility and conduct staff meetings.
  • Schedule and assign projects to recreation leaders and staff.
  • Prepare and meet with the general public, including clubs and organizations, to promote activities and fundraise.
  • Maintain accurate records and evaluate and analyze programs and write and present analytical reports summarizing findings on programs and services.
  • Participate in budget preparation and administration, prepare cost estimates for budget recommendations, submit justification for budget items, monitor, and control expenditures.
Requirements
  • Graduation from a recognized college or university with a bachelor's degree, with a preference for a master's degree in natural sciences, education, outdoor/environmental education, recreation and park administration, or a related field.
  • A minimum of four years of progressively responsible experience in developing and implementing a wide variety of innovative outdoor education programs, including both interpretation and recreation.
  • Three years of demonstrated ability to manage and supervise personnel teams, programs, and facilities.
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate valid California Driver's License, CPR, and First Aid Certificates.

This position participates in the Public Employees' Retirement System (CalPERS) and offers a competitive salary range of $67,891 - $74,859 annually, depending on experience.
