Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Laboratory Technologist to join our team in the Biomedical and Diagnostic Sciences department. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing routine microbiological procedures on clinical veterinary specimens, including sample setup, culture evaluation, and identification of bacterial and fungal pathogens.

Key Responsibilities
  • Set up and process microbiology cultures for diagnostic testing and research purposes
  • Evaluate cultures for the presence of bacteria and fungi, and provide accurate identification
  • Perform gram staining and interpretation, and document results on laboratory worksheets
  • Enter results into the hospital computer system and communicate with clinicians, staff, and students as needed
  • Participate in quality control activities and support laboratory staff in preparing protocols and maintaining equipment
Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Biology, Chemistry, or a related laboratory science
  • Basic knowledge of biology, chemistry, or a related science
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced laboratory environment
Preferred Qualifications
  • 1 year of experience in a diagnostic laboratory

This is a full-time position that requires occasional weekend, evening, or holiday work. The Veterinary Medical Center is operational 24/7, and the successful candidate must be able to adapt to a dynamic work environment.
