Position Summary:
The role of the Vehicle Emissions Compliance Engineer involves working within an Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) environment dedicated to the development of both On-Road and Off-Road Vehicles from concept through to launch. A primary responsibility of this position is to secure certification approvals from relevant governmental authorities (such as the U.S. EPA, CARB, NHTSA, among others). You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure compliance with exhaust and evaporative emissions regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and implement an effective Certification strategy focused on Exhaust Emissions for the USMCA market.
- Provide expert guidance on emission regulations and updates to various departments including Engineering, Quality, and Commercial.
- Collaborate with vehicle program teams to offer emissions regulatory advice and address any emissions-related challenges.
- Review and approve the definition of vehicle emissions test groups for USMCA Certification.
- Oversee the Emissions Certification Test Program.
- Prepare and submit data to meet emissions and fuel economy standards for U.S. EPA, CARB, and NHTSA.
- Act as a liaison between the company and external regulatory bodies regarding emissions certification matters.
- Support the development and maintenance of internal policies and processes related to compliance with all applicable standards and regulations.
- Report directly to the Environmental Lead Engineer.
- Contribute actively as a member of the Engineering team, ensuring effective communication and positive participation in meetings.
Qualifications:
- Degree in Engineering or a related field.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in Vehicle Emissions Certification (U.S. EPA / CARB / NHTSA regulations) within an OEM context.
- Proven knowledge of automotive design and engineering processes from concept to production.
- Extensive familiarity with emissions and fuel economy regulations and testing methodologies.
- Demonstrated experience in liaising with various government agencies.
- In-depth understanding of vehicle emissions control systems, engine calibrations, and powertrains.
- Ability to cultivate and maintain professional relationships with government agency personnel.
- Research regulatory requirements and negotiate effectively as necessary.
- Exceptional oral, written, and presentation communication skills.
- Strong organizational, planning, integrity, and teamwork abilities.
- Willingness to travel domestically and internationally (up to 10% of the time).
- Capability to build effective working relationships with internal stakeholders and external partners.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to influence and challenge both internally and externally.
- Solid capacity to transition from analytical thinking to strategic planning.
- Must be an effective communicator, able to foster sustainable relationships across multi-disciplinary teams including Engineering, Sales and Marketing, and Regulatory bodies.
