Primary Purpose


The Principal Software Engineer is responsible for delivering high-quality, innovative, and robust software solutions that comply with established coding standards and technical design principles. This role involves researching, designing, developing, and implementing new software applications while also enhancing existing functionalities.

Collaboration is key in this position, as the engineer will work closely with team members, stakeholders, and the Product team to ensure that the software meets business, functional, and technical requirements while being scalable.

The Principal Software Engineer will translate business and technical needs into well-engineered, tested, and deployed technology solutions by gathering user requirements, defining system functionalities, and writing code in various programming languages.

This role encompasses projects from inception to completion, including all necessary project documentation, status reports, and oversight of junior team members.

Challenges will vary in scope, requiring a thorough analysis of data and a deep understanding of business strategies, operations, markets, and key stakeholders.

Our flexible work schedule allows for a combination of in-office and remote work days.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Design technical solutions based on defined requirements and functional designs provided by the Product team and other stakeholders.
  • Build and configure technical components to ensure that the solution design aligns with business needs and architectural standards.
  • Document and write programming code to fulfill the gathered requirements.
  • Deliver solutions through various ERP or SaaS platforms.
  • Conduct code reviews and quality assurance to ensure adherence to technical standards and business requirements.
  • Collaborate with the team to support the Product team in creating and refining user stories and acceptance criteria.
  • Prepare development and testing environments, ensuring readiness for testing, and collaborate to execute testing.
  • Address bugs identified during quality assurance and testing phases.
  • Continuously work to reduce technical debt and phase out outdated applications and solutions.
  • Implement updates and enhancements to the software as necessary.
  • Release software into production and conduct various testing phases.
  • Provide insights and lead initiatives aimed at improving team processes and reducing technical debt.
  • Develop solutions that address diverse challenges and solve technical issues impacting multiple areas.
  • Communicate effectively with internal team members and client representatives.
  • Act as a project or team leader regarding solution design and methodologies.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on technology solutions, delivering high-quality work in cross-functional team settings.
  • Collaborate with the Product team to develop Master Data Management roadmaps.
  • Contribute to and lead brainstorming sessions and technical delivery strategies, fostering a culture of accountability and empowerment within the team.
Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Computer Science or a related technical field; equivalent experience or certifications will be considered.
  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in technology.
  • Experience in a senior role or technical capacity, with a focus on team leadership.
  • Proven experience in mentoring or onboarding team members in relevant technologies.
  • Demonstrated work experience as a Software Engineer or Developer.
  • Experience in designing interactive applications.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Java, Cobol, Python, C#, ColdFusion, C++, or others.
  • Knowledge of relational databases, SQL, and ORM technologies.
  • Experience in developing web applications using popular frameworks.
  • Familiarity with test-driven development practices.
  • Ability to document requirements and specifications effectively.
  • Understanding of algorithms and data structures.
  • Experience in implementing Master Data Management solutions.
Preferred Qualifications

  • Postgraduate degree or advanced training in relevant fields preferred.
  • Experience in Agile teams or product-based operating models.
  • Leadership experience within teams.
  • Background in retail or grocery sectors preferred.
  • Familiarity with SAP and Stibo solutions preferred.
