Job Summary

The Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs is seeking a highly skilled Fair Housing Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our Housing Resource Center division, you will play a critical role in advancing our mission to provide affordable housing opportunities and promote fair housing practices throughout the state.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct advanced research and policy analysis to inform fair housing initiatives and programs.
  • Develop and implement protocols and databases to manage and measure fair housing activities.
  • Provide administrative support to the Texas Interagency Council for the Homeless, including planning and coordinating quarterly meetings and producing the TICH Annual Report.
  • Assist in the preparation and production of written summaries, documents, and reports for the HRC division.
  • Review and analyze data collection and fair housing related data resources, applying quantitative and qualitative analysis methods to research data collected.
  • Perform work related to fair housing grants received by the division, including researching federal and state regulations governing fair housing issues.
  • Respond to requests for information regarding housing assistance, community services, and other activities of the Department.
Requirements
  • Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in government, public or business administration, community or regional planning, social work, or a related field.
  • At least 2 years of experience in affordable housing and/or fair housing, preferably with experience in research, planning, and policy analysis.
  • Strong writing skills and ability to produce professional quality reports and documents for internal and external audiences.
  • Research skills, including the ability to analyze moderately complex qualitative and quantitative data.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, coworkers, state agencies, and local government officials, community groups, advocates, and the public.
Working Conditions

This classification functions in a standard office environment. Ability to drive and travel as needed. Will need to move about the office to access file cabinets, use office machinery, attend meetings in various offices and conference rooms, etc. Must be able to communicate and exchange accurate information via phone, computer, and in person.

The employee must be able to lift and/or carry up to 10 lbs. Must be able to push and/or pull up to 10 lbs pounds.
