This role involves assisting healthcare providers and nursing staff in delivering medical services, as well as executing and assessing direct patient care. Responsibilities include preparing patients for examinations and treatments by recording vital signs, symptoms, and other essential measurements, as well as documenting the chief complaint and pain scores as necessary. You will assist providers with examinations and minor in-office procedures, which may involve measuring blood pressure, documenting respiration and heart rate, taking temperatures, performing phlebotomies, ear irrigations, and EKGs.
Adhering to universal precautions and utilizing personal protective equipment is essential at all times. You will coordinate and manage patient care, including pre-certifications, referrals, authorizations, prescriptions, and scheduling for clinics, hospitals, and other ancillary medical treatments and tests.
Medications may be administered in accordance with established protocols or as directed.
Clerical support will include patient notifications and documentation, ensuring complete medical records, including labs, authorizations, X-Rays, and any previous care relevant to each patient visit. You will provide accurate information necessary for billing related to patient encounters promptly.
Maintain a clean and functional environment by disinfecting equipment, exam rooms, and storage areas. Perform basic maintenance on equipment and coordinate repairs as needed.
Order supplies as directed and ensure patient care areas are well-stocked.
This position requires completion of all necessary onboarding and orientation activities, including simulation training, as directed.
Working under the direct supervision of healthcare providers, you will interact with various staff levels across departments, physicians, patients, families, and external contacts regarding patient health care.
Prioritize data from multiple sources to support patient and family responses to health status changes.
All functions must comply with established policies, procedures, regulatory and accreditation requirements, as well as applicable professional standards.Deliver exceptional service to all customers of Banner Health by consistently demonstrating our core and leadership behaviors.
Completion of an accredited medical assistant training program as per state regulations is required.Active Medical Assistant Certification is mandatory. Certification or additional training must align with Meaningful Use requirements.
Active Medical Assistant certifications include:
Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) with proof of current membership from American Medical Technologists (AMT) or Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) with proof of current membership from American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) or Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) with proof of current membership from National Health Career Association (NHA) (Test administered after 7/1/2017 only) or National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA) with proof of current membership from National Certified Competency Testing (NCCT).
Strong computer skills are essential, including proficiency with medical software.Experience with office medical procedures and treatments, along with knowledge of insurance, managed care operations, EMR, and scheduling software, is preferred.
