Job Summary

The Medical Assistant is a vital healthcare professional responsible for performing a wide range of administrative and clinical tasks to support healthcare providers in delivering high-quality patient care. This role is based on-site in Peoria and requires bilingual Spanish/English skills.

Key Responsibilities
  • Identify patient service requirements by establishing rapport with the patient and others, exhibiting knowledge of growth, development, and appropriate communication.
  • Promote collaboration within the facility to improve patient access and patient outcomes, increasing the efficiency of the team.
  • Assist with orientation and training of new team members.
  • Ensure patient flowsheet/check-out sheet is completed for each patient visit.
  • Conduct fibroscans, implement provider orders promptly and with accuracy, and maintain documentation of patient care services.
  • Document procedures, medication, delivery of care, and pertinent information regarding care inside the EMR and 340B tracker.
  • Assist with 340B medication prior authorization and educate patients on medications and directions for use.
  • Answer telephone calls, take messages for the provider, and return telephone calls to patients, documenting all patient interaction in the patient electronic medical record.
  • Facilitate patient reports and deliver them to the provider, providing an effective communication link between patient and medical staff.
  • Process outgoing referrals, send medical records, and ensure the Referred To provider has all necessary documents to schedule patient.
  • Make appointments for patients for diagnostic procedures and/or with a specialist, acting as a liaison with providers, other medical offices, and hospitals.
  • Clean and prepare rooms between procedures, restock supplies, and complete patient care requirements by performing tests and completing other tasks as assigned.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, and establishing personal networks.
  • Perform all other related duties as assigned or requested by the Practice Administrator and Team Supervisor.
  • Designee or MA to float as needed to accommodate patient and provider needs and rotate positions within ALH clinics as requested by immediate supervisor.

Requirements
  • Proven working experience as a medical assistant or medical secretary.
  • Knowledge of medical office management systems and procedures.
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to multi-task and prioritize work.
  • Social perceptiveness and service-oriented.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and planning skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and patient management software.
