POSITION OVERVIEW

Under the guidance of the Director of Easter Seals Enterprises and in collaboration with the Employment Program team, this role is dedicated to assisting adults with developmental disabilities in making informed choices regarding their living, working, and social environments. The position focuses on providing training and information related to disability-related employment benefits while fostering self-determination for individuals pursuing their aspirations. The following duties and responsibilities are integral to this role:

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Direct Support
  • Embrace and implement the principles of Person-Centered Thinking alongside the Mission, Vision & Values of the organization.
  • Conduct work activities that align with the core values of Easter Seals Enterprises, including Respect, Integrity, Compassion, Stewardship, Learning, Teamwork, and Entrepreneurial Spirit.
  • Promote and celebrate cultural diversity within all facets of the organization, including clients, volunteers, employees, and stakeholders.
  • Adhere to all safety protocols as outlined in the Injury, Illness, and Prevention Program Safety Manual, understanding the implications of non-compliance.
  • Deliver outstanding customer service to both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and records, ensuring compliance with HIPAA, PHI, and other confidentiality regulations as mandated by law and organizational policies.
  • Provide job coaching that encompasses resume development, job assessments, placements, and ongoing support.
  • Engage in case management activities, including leading Individual Service Plan (ISP) meetings, managing case files, and ensuring quality assurance through thorough case notes.
  • Facilitate on-site vocational training classes as part of a rotating schedule.
  • Offer benefits support to individuals to safeguard their personal benefits in relation to employment and income.
  • Commit to a flexible schedule of 5 hours per week, adapting to the needs of individuals, staff, and stakeholders.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Job Coaching Responsibilities: Provide personalized vocational preparation and guidance to individuals with disabilities, assisting them in enhancing their employment skills and opportunities.
  • Collaborate with individuals, their support teams, and management to identify those ready to explore community work or volunteer opportunities.
  • Guide individuals through the job acquisition process, including resume creation, job applications, interviews, and on-site coaching to ensure successful employment outcomes.
  • Draft the Individual Eligibility Evaluation (IEE) and Individual Service Plan (ISP), ensuring that established goals are specific and measurable.
  • Complete all necessary reports and documentation in a timely manner, ensuring compliance with Easter Seals-CARF standards.
  • Provide training and support aligned with the individual's ISP through various methods, including virtual classes and in-person training sessions.
  • Lead engaging and relevant classes as scheduled, fostering participation and ensuring the content remains current and meaningful.
  • Supply curriculum materials and resources in accessible formats to facilitate understanding and engagement.
  • Identify needs for accommodations or adaptive technologies that may enhance employment opportunities.
  • Share information about Micro Business opportunities that align with individual vocational preferences.
  • Establish partnerships with potential employers across diverse sectors to broaden employment options for individuals.
  • Provide transportation to work sites when necessary.
  • Acquire knowledge of worksite equipment as applicable.
Benefits Support: Assist individuals receiving Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) in maximizing their employment potential.
  • Develop and present Benefits Summary and Analysis (BSA) and Work Incentive Plan (WIP) reports for individuals.
  • Complete required documentation for Easter Seals and funding sources.
  • Collaborate with individuals and their planning teams to explain available work incentives and their benefits.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of various funding sources and their requirements related to employment.
  • Gather essential information regarding disability-related benefits.
  • Provide advocacy and problem-solving support to individuals and families as needed.
  • Facilitate the use of appropriate work incentives and provide proactive follow-up services.
  • Maintain productivity levels that meet or exceed established benchmarks.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Meetings:
  • Facilitate and participate in Individual Service Plan meetings.
  • Attend all relevant staff meetings at Easter Seals Enterprises.
  • Complete mandatory development trainings annually or as required.
  • Participate in community meetings and networking opportunities to connect individuals with potential employers.
  • Attend other meetings as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS: To be successful in this role, candidates must meet the following qualifications:

Education and Experience:
  • An Associate of Arts degree in a relevant field such as human services, social work, or special education is preferred, though equivalent experience may be considered.
  • At least one year of full-time experience working with individuals with physical and/or intellectual disabilities.
  • One year of case management experience is preferred.
  • Obtain and maintain the Social Security Administration's Community Work Incentive Coordinator (CWIC) credential.
  • Obtain and maintain certification through the Social Security Administration's Work Incentives Planning and Outreach (WIPA) training.
Knowledge and Skills:
  • Understanding of community service organization philosophies and objectives.
  • Familiarity with disabilities and the characteristics of individuals served.
  • Proficient in effective interpersonal communication techniques.
  • Knowledge of community resources and available services.
  • Competent in the use of general office equipment and intermediate computer skills (data entry).
  • Strong organizational skills to manage workload effectively.
Language Skills:
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both verbal and written forms.
  • Capable of following written and verbal instructions.
  • Proficient in presenting information and responding to inquiries from supervisors, case managers, clients, and the public.
Mathematical Skills:
  • Ability to perform basic calculations and apply mathematical concepts.
Reasoning Ability:
  • Ability to solve practical problems and utilize available resources effectively.
  • Capable of working independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to interpret and follow a variety of instructions.
  • Maintain composure and sound judgment in stressful situations.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, volunteers, clients, and the public.
Certificates and Licenses:
  • A valid California driver's license and proof of liability insurance are required.
  • Current certification in Adult First Aid/CPR with AED from an approved provider is necessary.
  • Current fingerprint clearance through the Department of Justice is required.
  • A pre-placement physical is mandatory.
  • Proof of a negative TB test within the last twelve months is required.
  • Evidence of full COVID-19 vaccination status is required.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The physical demands of this position require the employee to:
  • Walk, sit, stand, and lift or carry items weighing up to 25 lbs.
  • Safely assist clients in wheelchairs following organizational safety policies.
  • Transfer and position clients using proper techniques and equipment.
  • Communicate effectively and use hands for various tasks.
  • Occasionally reach for items, crouch, or kneel as needed.
  • Have specific vision abilities for effective job performance.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment is typically an office setting with various office spaces, restrooms, and conference rooms, as well as community work settings as required.
