Job Summary and Qualifications

POSITION SUMMARY:

Under general supervision, you will operate Cat Scan equipment, positioning patients to obtain diagnostic images safely while performing related tasks.

POPULATION SERVED:

Your core competencies will be assessed primarily on the following patient populations: imaging with and without contrast for various conditions including cardio-pulmonary, vascular, neuro, GI, GU, GYN, and skeletal/muscular diseases.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Operate C.T. equipment to produce radiographic scans of specific body areas, ensuring correct positioning and technical adjustments for each examination.
  • Perform data reconstruction and special processing, evaluating completed scans for quality and adequacy.
  • Monitor patients closely, providing first aid as needed, and consult with physicians when necessary.
  • Conduct clerical tasks including managing patient records and requisitions.
  • Maintain accurate records on various data storage systems, ensuring proper identification of films.
  • Demonstrate excellent customer service principles in all interactions.
  • Utilize immobilization devices to ensure precise positioning and patient comfort.
  • Stay updated on advancements in diagnostic Cat Scan techniques through continuous education.
  • Adhere to sterile techniques and maintain cleanliness in all work areas.
  • Follow prescribed radiation safety standards and participate in quality improvement initiatives.
  • Record hours worked in compliance with hospital policies.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

REQUIRED LICENSURE/CERTIFICATIONS

  • ARRT (R) certification
  • ARRT (CT) certification
  • Texas Medical Board certification as a Medical Radiologic Technologist
  • Current BCLS certification

REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Associate's Degree
  • Knowledge of axial anatomy

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • 3 years of experience in X-ray/CT
  • In-depth knowledge of anatomy, positioning, radiographic techniques, and radiation safety
  • Familiarity with radiographic physics and medical terminology
  • Ability to determine exposure factors for optimal imaging
  • Skills in evaluating radiographs for quality and technique
  • Discretion and good judgment in patient interactions
  • Proficiency in operating Cat Scan equipment safely and efficiently
  • Capacity to innovate and improve departmental techniques.
