Job Title: Financial Specialist Senior

Join the State of Idaho team as a Financial Specialist Senior, where you will play a critical role in ensuring the accurate and timely financial management of the state's resources.

About the Role:

This senior-level position is responsible for providing financial expertise and support to the Controller's Office and other agencies throughout the state. As a Financial Specialist Senior, you will be responsible for:

  • Providing financial guidance and support to state agencies, ensuring compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Governmental Accounting Standards.
  • Reviewing and approving financial transactions, including requisitions, purchase orders, accounts payable, and reconciliation.
  • Preparing, processing, and reconciling accounts receivable billing statements.
  • Completing financial account reconciliations, researching errors, and preparing journal entries to process corrections.
  • Developing and preparing financial documents, including financial reports and summaries.
  • Monitoring agency cash balances and researching and compiling financial information.
  • Responding to external compliance and audit requests.
  • Reviewing monthly program area financial statements and performing fiscal month-end and year-end closeout functions.
  • Inventorying and monitoring agency assets.
  • Analyzing and interpreting regulations and policies.
Requirements:

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A strong sense of customer service and professionalism, even in a sometimes-stressful environment.
  • The ability and willingness to work as a team member.
  • Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Consistent thoroughness and reliability in meeting deadlines.
  • Good organizational, problem-solving, and prioritization skills.
  • The ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
  • A good understanding of internal control practices and procedures.
Preferred Qualifications:

While not required, the following qualifications are preferred:

  • Three to five years of state of Idaho governmental accounting experience.
  • Experience working in an enterprise reporting platform (ERP).
  • CGFM certification.
