Job Summary

The City of Alexandria, LA is seeking a highly skilled Fleet Maintenance Technician Sr. to join our team. As a key member of our Public Works Department, you will be responsible for performing technical and skilled mechanical, maintenance, and repairs on city fleet vehicles, heavy-duty trucks, buses, fire and police vehicles, and apparatus.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform mechanical repairs on gas and diesel automotive and mechanical equipment, including lawnmowers, boats, trailers, forklifts, engines, transmissions, differentials, electrical systems, front ends, brakes, and AC systems.
  • Repair hydraulic cylinders, valves, and hoses.
  • Use computer and diagnostic equipment to determine mechanical problems and research to complete repairs.
  • Submit work orders and order parts.
  • Use a variety of mechanics' tools in completing repairs and maintenance tasks.
  • Perform minor welding and fabricating of parts as needed.
  • Road test vehicles to ensure repairs are complete.
  • Complete preventive maintenance on vehicles and equipment.
  • Follow established safety precautions and dispose of oils, solvents, and other products per EPA regulations.
  • Receive service calls and drive a wrecker to tow disabled vehicles, operating according to OSHA and State DOT laws and regulations.
  • Conduct motor vehicle inspections.
  • Prepare required maintenance and repair records.

Requirements
  • High School diploma or GED, with vocational or technical training in automotive and/or diesel equipment repair.
  • Three (3) years of experience in automotive/diesel engine maintenance and repair work, including electronic diagnostic experience.
  • Automotive certification in the appropriate area is desired.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license.
  • Will be required to obtain a valid State of Louisiana driver's license at time of appointment and maintain throughout employment.
