Clinical Testing and Laboratory Operations


At Christus Health, we are seeking a highly skilled Medical Laboratory Technician to join our team in a dynamic laboratory setting. As a Medical Laboratory Technician I-Lab Administrator General PRN, you will play a critical role in performing clinical testing and laboratory operations with accuracy and efficiency. Your expertise will ensure the timely and quality delivery of laboratory results, contributing to the overall success of our healthcare organization.


Key Responsibilities:


  • Specimen Collection and Handling: Obtain blood specimens via venipuncture and/or fingerstick, accurately identify and label them, and follow procedures for processing and testing specimens.
  • Result Reporting: Recognize errors or improbable results, take appropriate action, and report critical values per policy and procedure.
  • Quality Control and Performance Improvement: Perform and record quality control procedures according to policy and procedure, following CLIA, CAP, AABB, and JCAHO guidelines, and contribute to performance improvement initiatives.
  • Equipment Maintenance and Safety: Perform daily and periodic preventative maintenance, troubleshoot minor problems, and ensure the safe operation of laboratory equipment.

Requirements and Qualifications:


  • Educational Background: Associate's degree or higher in clinical laboratory science or medical laboratory technology from an accredited institution or equivalent laboratory training and experience meeting the requirements defined in the CLIA regulation.
  • Work Experience: Six months of approved clinical laboratory experience, including a clinical rotation through the following sections: Blood Banking, Microbiology, Chemistry, and Hematology, Immunology, and Urinalysis/Body Fluids in the U.S. or with an accredited laboratory within the last 5 years.
  • State Licensure: Louisiana requires state licensure.
  • Board Certification: New graduates must be board certified or eligible within one year of hire (Louisiana excluded).
