Job Description and Duties

As an Intern Pharmacist at the Department of Developmental Services - Porterville Developmental Center, you will have the opportunity to work under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist and perform a wide range of tasks related to pharmacy operations. Your responsibilities will include preparing and dispensing medications, filling prescriptions, reviewing patient charts and medication regimens, participating in treatment team meetings, and maintaining accurate records of drugs, poisons, and narcotics.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Prepare and dispense medications and pharmaceutical preparations
  • Fulfill prescriptions and review patient charts and medication regimens
  • Participate in treatment team meetings and provide ongoing consultation to treatment teams and the Medical Review Committee
  • Maintain accurate records of drugs, poisons, and narcotics
  • Assist in the preparation of estimates and requisitions for drugs, sundries, and chemicals
Working Conditions:

This position requires ongoing interaction with pharmacy staff, providers, health services specialists, registered nurses, vendors, and program and unit staff. You will be working in a fast-paced environment and must be able to maintain a high level of productivity and accuracy while working in a team setting.

Requirements:
  • Must possess and maintain sufficient strength, agility, endurance, and sensory ability to perform the duties contained within the Duty Statement
  • Must be able to work in a team environment and maintain effective communication with colleagues and supervisors
Special Requirements:
  • The position requires a Background Investigation to be cleared prior to being hired
  • The position requires Medical Clearance prior to being hired
