Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced educator to fill the role of Districtwide English as a Second Language Instructional Leadership Specialist. The successful candidate will possess a deep understanding of language acquisition, strong coaching abilities, and a passion for supporting educators in enhancing ESL instruction across our district.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and Implement ESL Coaching Strategies: Develop and implement effective ESL coaching strategies that align with district goals, policies, standards, and state and federal compliance.
- Provide Targeted Support and Guidance: Provide targeted support and guidance to ESL teachers, ensuring instructional strategies and resources comply with local, state, and federal regulations.
- Develop and Facilitate Professional Development: Develop and facilitate professional development workshops, seminars, and training sessions centered around ESL best practices, cultural competence, and language acquisition strategies.
- Build Strong Working Relationships: Build strong working relationships with school and district leadership to identify program needs and develop plans that support and align with the district's strategic plan.
- Assist in Resource Selection: Assist in the selection and adaptation of appropriate instructional materials, technology tools, and resources for ESL learners.
- Analyze and Disaggregate Data: Analyze and disaggregate district and school data to identify strategies for improvement for MLL learners.
- Stay Current with Research: Stay abreast of current research, trends, and methodologies in ESL education and integrate this knowledge into coaching practices and district-wide initiatives.
- Collaborate with Academic Team: Partner with academic team members to ensure that all content areas are embedding the support necessary for students to access the grade-level curriculum and content.
- Foster a Cohesive Approach: Collaborate with other district coaches and instructional leaders to foster a cohesive approach to professional development and student support.
- Monitor WIDA and ACCESS Testing: Monitor the implementation district-wide of WIDA and ACCESS testing.
Requirements:
- Master's Degree: Possesses a master's degree from an accredited college or university.
- Professional Teaching License: Possesses a professional teaching license from the MA Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.
- Experience: Has completed a minimum of 5 years of experience working directly with students, with most of the teaching experience in the content area to which the candidate is applying.
- Attendance and Evaluation: Has a 97% attendance rate in a historical context from the academic year and the academic year.
- Student Achievement: Demonstrate growth in student achievement based on assessments over the past one to two years.
- Exemplary Evaluation: Overall exemplary evaluation rating from a direct supervisor is preferred. A minimum of an overall proficient rating is required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Other Qualifications:
- Coaching Experience: Experience in coaching, mentoring, or providing professional development to educators in both elementary and secondary preferred.
- Data Analysis: Demonstrated ability to analyze data, assess needs, and design targeted professional development plans.
- ELLevation Software: Knowledge of ELLevation Software, Imagine Learning, and PowerSchool preferred.
- Second Language Acquisition: Deep understanding of second language acquisition theories, ESL methodologies, and culturally responsive teaching practices.
- Interpersonal and Communication Skills: Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
- Sheltered English Instruction: Demonstrated knowledge and expertise in effective Sheltered English Instruction pedagogy.
- Dual Language Programs: Understanding of Dual Language, Transitional Bilingual Education, Sheltered Instruction, and SIFE Programs.
Physical Requirements:
Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly having to move objects.
Working Requirements:
This position requires employees to be in an office or similar indoor environment.
