Elementary Classroom Educator

As an Elementary Classroom Teacher with Springfield Public Schools - MA, you will be responsible for creating a supportive and inclusive learning environment that fosters the academic, social, and emotional growth of students in grades 1-6.
Key Responsibilities:
• Meet and instruct assigned classes in the locations and at times designated.
• Plan a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students.
• Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of students.
• Guide the learning process toward the achievement of established district curriculum goals and establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects.
• Prepare for classes assigned and show written evidence of preparation upon request of the immediate supervisor as required by the teachers' contract.
• Employ a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media consistent with the physical limitations of the location provided and the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved.
• Strive to implement the district's philosophy of education, instructional goals, and objectives and performance expectations through instruction and action.
• Assess the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provide progress reports as required, and communicate with parents as deemed necessary.
• Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulations.
• Diagnose the learning challenges of students on a regular basis and seek the assistance of district specialists as required.
• Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
• Follow the SPS code of conduct for the classroom, which is consistent with established administrative policies, and develop rules of classroom behavior that are enforced in a fair and just manner.
• Plan and supervise assignments for paraprofessionals and make written evaluations as required.
• Maintain an ongoing program of professional growth that satisfies district requirements but also satisfies personal expectations as a professional.
• Take an active part in the contractually-approved teacher evaluation process and contribute to a mutual agreement concerning the results of that evaluation.
• Attend building and district meetings to promote communication and mutual decision-making among the staff, and attend established traditional school-sponsored activities agreed upon by the building administrator and the faculty consistent with the teachers' contract.
• Contribute to the decisions made by the district and building regarding budget, facilities, curriculum, and personal well-being.
• Strive to maintain and improve professional competence.
Qualifications:
• Highly qualified with required competency in the content area.
• Appropriate content/program area educator license (Elementary) and grade level (1-6) licensure from the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.
• Bachelor's Degree with appropriate license; or Master's Degree with appropriate content area license preferred and/or expected within 5 years.
