Unit Overview:
The Citywide Concrete Unit plays a crucial role in advancing the agency's objectives to improve, rehabilitate, and sustain the City's infrastructure by serving as the primary construction unit.

Team Composition:
Our team comprises dedicated engineers, managers, support personnel, and laborers who prioritize cost-efficiency while upholding the highest standards of excellence in safety and quality.

Key Responsibilities:
Under general supervision, the selected candidate will be tasked with a variety of duties, including but not limited to:

  • Conducting field layouts with close oversight for various street improvement initiatives and sidewalk corners for pedestrian ramps.
  • Ensuring that project construction adheres to federal ADA, NYS, and NYC specifications and standards, as well as NYC zoning laws and site-specific or typical Maintenance of Traffic (MPT) plans.
  • Estimating project costs and timelines prior to commencement with some supervision.
  • Reviewing proposed in-house construction projects, such as medians, refuge islands, pedestrian ramps, neckdowns, and sidewalk extensions, for feasibility, drainage considerations, and compliance with standards.
  • Monitoring the progress of various in-house concrete projects.
  • Effectively communicating design details and any impromptu changes to construction crews to ensure compliance with design drawings and standards.
  • Maintaining accurate written and photographic documentation of construction progress.
  • Preparing daily and weekly reports related to project advancement.
  • Reviewing and providing feedback on site-specific MPTs for street improvement projects.
  • Participating in implementation meetings for upcoming street improvement projects alongside other stakeholders to discuss project specifics.
  • Coordinating with other units to identify potential challenges and resolve conflicts related to project scope.

Minimum Qualifications:
1. A baccalaureate degree in civil engineering from an accredited institution. Degrees in other engineering disciplines or civil engineering technology are not acceptable.

Preferred Skills:
Preference will be given to candidates possessing the following:

  • A valid driver's license in the state of New York.
