Position Overview

Job Title: Educational Support Specialist

Role Summary: The Educational Support Specialist plays a crucial role in assisting educators with direct instruction, organization, and classroom management techniques. This position is essential for reinforcing educational strategies that enhance the curriculum by undertaking various responsibilities related to student supervision during different school activities. Specific tasks may differ based on the program and job assignment; responsibilities could include facilitating small group instruction in academic subjects, overseeing lunch periods, supervising recreational activities, managing in-school suspension, and monitoring playground activities.

Reporting Structure: Reports to School Administrators

Support Network: Academic Support Team

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Educational Support Specialist contributes to maintaining a positive, safe, and effective educational environment by engaging in the following areas:

Academic and Emotional Support

  • Collaborate with general and/or special education instructors at designated grade levels to plan and deliver small group or individualized academic interventions for early elementary students, in alignment with strategies from the RTI/504 Coordinator and/or the supervising teacher's lesson plans;
  • Provide targeted small group and/or individualized instruction in accordance with the established phonics curriculum;
  • Administer assessments to evaluate student progress;
  • Gather progress monitoring and Student Support Team (SST) data for assigned students, under the guidance of the general education teacher or SST Coordinator;
  • Implement interventions at all tiers to support Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS);
  • Assist educators with classroom organization, management, and instructional methodologies;
  • Support teachers in preparing instructional materials (student copies, bulletin boards, classroom displays) relevant to daily lesson plans;
  • Foster positive relationships and provide behavioral support to enhance socio-emotional skills.

Professionalism, Communication, and Teamwork

  • Assist in managing student dismissal, meal times, and other school activities requiring supervision;
  • Collaborate effectively with school personnel to promote holistic student development;
  • Build positive relationships with students.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be a United States citizen or possess authorization to work in the United States;
  • Possess an Associate's Degree or higher in any field from an accredited institution, OR have completed two years of college coursework (60 semester hours or more) at an accredited college or university, OR hold a minimum of a High School Diploma or GED with passing scores on the GACE Paraprofessional Assessment Test.
