Overview

Central Health is seeking a dedicated Pediatric Speech Therapist to assess and treat children from birth to 21 years in a nonprofit outpatient clinical environment, addressing a wide range of speech and language challenges.

Key Responsibilities

Core Duties:
  • Conduct thorough evaluations and diagnoses of speech and language impairments, including articulation, expressive and receptive language, and pragmatic skills.
  • Develop personalized treatment strategies tailored to the unique needs of each pediatric patient, incorporating both short-term and long-term objectives along with caregiver support.
  • Deliver direct, individualized therapy sessions aimed at enhancing the speech, language, and communication abilities of young clients.
  • Implement targeted interventions for children facing diverse communication challenges stemming from various conditions, such as Autism Spectrum Disorder and speech delays.
  • Educate and train caregivers while maintaining open communication regarding treatment plans and progress towards goals.
  • Document patient advancements in accordance with established medical documentation protocols using appropriate software.
  • Collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary team members, including occupational and physical therapists, to ensure comprehensive, patient-centered care.
  • Stay informed of the latest developments in the field by participating in educational workshops and reviewing relevant professional literature.
  • Recommend and adjust adaptive equipment to enhance patient independence.
  • Formulate suitable discharge plans for patients upon completion of their treatment programs.
  • Supervise therapy assistants as necessary.
  • Perform additional tasks as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • In-depth understanding of prevalent speech and language disorders, including articulation, fluency, and pragmatic issues.
  • Strong clinical reasoning skills for selecting appropriate diagnostic tools, interpreting results, and devising effective treatment plans.
  • Familiarity with evidence-based therapeutic practices.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills for managing challenging situations with clients, particularly those with behavioral needs associated with Autism Spectrum Disorder.
  • Effective communication abilities for collaboration with therapy teams, caregivers, and clients.
  • Proficiency in resource identification and advocacy for patients through community services and referrals.
  • Knowledge of equipment and instruments used in therapeutic settings, along with best practices for their utilization.
  • Strong time management skills for prioritizing multiple tasks and responsibilities.
  • Attention to detail in maintaining accurate treatment notes and progress documentation.
  • Empathy and compassion when working with individuals facing communication difficulties.
  • Active listening skills to understand client concerns and symptoms, facilitating appropriate treatment decisions.
  • Commitment to representing Central Health with professionalism in all actions and communications.
  • Understanding of Joint Commission accreditation standards and compliance with federal, state, and local regulations in healthcare delivery.
  • Experience in a patient-centered medical home (PCMH) environment is preferred.
  • Adherence to all regulatory and accreditation standards in patient care and administrative processes.
Qualifications

Minimum Education:
A Master's degree in Speech Language Pathology from an accredited institution.

Required Certifications/Licensure:
Must possess an active and unrestricted license to practice as a Speech Language Pathologist in Texas.

Required Courses/Certifications:
Current CPR certification for Healthcare Providers through recognized organizations, with maintenance of certification required throughout employment.
