Position Overview

We are looking for a dedicated and skilled Permanent Senior Accounting Specialist to enhance our financial team. This role is crucial for maintaining our fiscal integrity and ensuring that all accounting functions operate efficiently. You will be tasked with preparing financial reports, analyzing the organization’s accounts, and ensuring adherence to financial reporting and accounting standards. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of accounting practices and a passion for numbers.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Prepare and document asset, liability, revenue, and expense entries by compiling and analyzing account data.
  • Maintain and balance subsidiary accounts by verifying, allocating, posting, reconciling transactions, and resolving discrepancies.
  • Oversee the general ledger by transferring subsidiary accounts, preparing trial balances, and reconciling entries.
  • Summarize financial status by gathering information, preparing balance sheets, profit and loss statements, and other reports.
  • Conduct monthly, quarterly, and annual accounting activities including bank and credit card reconciliations, coordination and completion of annual audits, and reviewing financial reports as necessary.
  • Analyze and report on financial status including income statement variances, communicating financial results to management, and assisting in budget preparation and analysis.
  • Enhance systems and procedures and initiate corrective actions.
  • Oversee tax obligations and ensure compliance with federal regulations.
  • Manage and monitor the performance of invested assets in accordance with policies and investment strategies.
  • Review and suggest modifications to accounting systems and procedures.
  • Participate in the establishment of financial standards and the forecasting process.
  • Contribute to departmental goal-setting initiatives.
  • Assist with tax audits and the preparation of tax returns.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of proven experience as a Senior Accountant or in a similar capacity.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and relevant regulations.
  • Comprehensive understanding of accounting and financial processes (budgeting, financial closure, reporting, etc.).
  • Proficient in data analysis and forecasting.
  • Familiarity with MS Office (especially Excel) and accounting software (e.g., SAP).
  • Highly organized with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Detail-oriented with strong problem-solving capabilities.
  • Experience in commercial real estate accounting, fixed asset accounting, accruals, year-end close, monthly reporting, balance sheets, journal entries, and fixed assets.
  • Experience with grants and financials is a plus.
  • CPA certification is a significant advantage.
