Job Summary:

The Salvation Army USA Western Territory is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Food and Nutrition Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for providing support for our food and nutrition initiatives, including Hope Express, Medically Tailored Meals, and the Fresh Choice Food Program.

Key Responsibilities:

• Prepare, cook, and serve meals and snacks for Hope Express and Medically Tailored Meals
• Conduct street outreach services to engage with the community and promote our programs
• Coordinate intake and program eligibility for food and nutrition programs, ensuring that participants meet the necessary requirements
• Maintain accurate records of gifts-in-kind donations and program participation
• Assist in the coordination of the Fresh Choice Food Program, ensuring that it runs smoothly and efficiently
• Maintain inventory of food products, equipment, and supplies, ensuring that we have everything we need to operate effectively
• Operate and maintain the mobile kitchen trailer and assigned vehicle, ensuring that they are in good working condition
• Serve on the Emergency Disaster Services (EDS) team, providing support during times of crisis
• Coordinate assigned volunteers, ensuring that they are properly trained and equipped to perform their duties
• Participate in weekly case conference meetings, discussing participant progress and making recommendations for improvement
• Participate in program and agency trainings, staying up-to-date on the latest best practices and procedures
• Maintain accurate participant records in various information management systems, generating reports as requested
• Maintain confidentiality of participant information, adhering to HIPAA standards
• Ensure that intake and care procedures utilize harm reduction and trauma-informed care principles, prioritizing the well-being of our participants
• Check and respond to emails and voicemails on a regular basis, ensuring that we are responsive to the needs of our participants and stakeholders
• Adhere to confidentiality standards, protecting sensitive information and maintaining the trust of our participants

Requirements:

• Ability to speak and write the English language at a high and professional level
• High degree of confidentiality, with the ability to maintain sensitive information
• Ability to endorse and promote The Salvation Army's mission, values, and goals
• Minimum two (2) years of food service, social service, or related experience, with a strong understanding of nutrition and food service principles
• Computer literacy, with proficiency in Windows environment (Microsoft Office), Word, Excel, and Outlook
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to interact effectively with participants, stakeholders, and team members
• Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple projects, and meet deadlines
• Strong ability to utilize a high level of time management and handling multiple tasks, with a focus on efficiency and productivity

Certifications and Licenses:

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Must possess ServSafe Food Handler certification
• Must possess a valid California Class C Driver License, with the ability to drive a Salvation Army vehicle
• Must be 21 years or older, with a clean driving record
• Authorize The Salvation Army to add name to the CA DMV Pull Notice Program
• Complete The Salvation Army vehicle course training, ensuring that you are properly trained and equipped to operate a Salvation Army vehicle
• Must be able to successfully pass a criminal background check, including a DOJ Livescan Fingerprint check

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist on an intermittent or sometimes continuous basis
• Ability to grasp, push, and/or pull objects, with a focus on safety and efficiency
• Ability to reach overhead, with a focus on flexibility and mobility
• Ability to operate a telephone, with a focus on effective communication and customer service
• Ability to lift up to 50-70 lbs., with a focus on safety and ergonomics
• Ability to operate a computer, with a focus on efficiency and productivity
• Ability to process written, visual, and/or verbal information, with a focus on accuracy and attention to detail
• Ability to operate basic office equipment and tools, including a PC, Fax Machine, Telephone, Calculator, Copier, and Printer

Qualified individuals must be able to perform the essential duties of the position with or without accommodation. This position is funded by a grant and its continuation is contingent upon the renewal of the grant funding. Employment in this role is dependent on the ongoing availability of funding, and there is no guarantee of continuation beyond the current funding period.
