Middle Markets Underwriter

Position Summary: We are in search of a skilled Middle Markets Underwriter at either the Mid-Senior or Senior level. This role offers the flexibility of a hybrid work environment, allowing you to collaborate effectively with your manager to create a schedule that meets the needs of our clients and partners.
Key Responsibilities:
- Act as a customer industry advocate, enhancing the client experience by thoroughly understanding their risks and providing tailored insurance solutions.
- Employ a systematic approach to evaluate exposures, assess risks, and determine pricing strategies.
- Utilize risk insights, data analytics, and models to make informed decisions during the sales process.
- Identify coverage gaps and align Zurich's offerings to ensure clients receive the necessary contract certainty.
- Exhibit strong analytical capabilities and function as an innovative advisor.
- Underwrite, analyze, and generate both new and renewal business.
- Engage with the market and drive production within the expanding Middle Markets division.
- Oversee and adhere to underwriting guidelines, insurance regulations, and rating manual rules.
- Develop and nurture relationships with agencies and brokers.
- Handle complex assignments within broad limits and authorities.
Qualifications:
Mid-Senior Level (Level II):
- High School Diploma or Equivalent with a minimum of 3 years of experience in Underwriting or Market Facing roles.
- Alternatively, a High School Diploma or Equivalent with 6 years of experience in Claims or Underwriting Support.
- Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with an Associate Degree and at least 1 year of experience in Underwriting or Market Facing roles.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and knowledgeable about industry lines and regulatory guidelines.
Senior Level (Level III):
- High School Diploma or Equivalent with 5 years of experience in Underwriting or Market Facing roles.
- Alternatively, a High School Diploma or Equivalent with 10 years of experience in Claims or Underwriting Support.
- Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with an Associate Degree and at least 3 years of experience in Underwriting or Market Facing roles.
Preferred Skills:
- Bachelor's Degree.
- Strong risk assessment and negotiation skills.
- Established relationships with retail brokers in the Southern California region.
- Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written.
- In-depth knowledge of underwriting principles, techniques, and regulatory guidelines.
- Proficiency in PC and related software.
- CPCU and ARM designations are advantageous.
