Position Overview:

The Pediatric Occupational Therapist is responsible for delivering therapeutic services to children with disabilities, focusing on their functional adaptation to their surroundings.

Essential Qualifications:

Mandatory:

  • Graduation from an accredited Occupational Therapy program.
  • New Jersey State Occupational Therapy License.
  • Active registration with the American Occupational Therapy Certification Board.
  • Successful completion of the NBCOT Certification Examination and maintenance of registration.
  • AHA BLS Provider Certification.
  • Valid Driver's License.
  • Experience in pediatrics through a twelve-week affiliation or relevant pediatric experience.
  • Comprehensive understanding of developmental theories and the impact of physical and perceptual-cognitive disabilities, along with the psychosocial aspects of functional adaptation.
  • Capability to assess performance disruptions and devise treatment plans to alleviate disabling effects.
  • Professional tact and judgment in executing responsibilities.
  • Dedication to enhancing skill levels.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.

Preferred:

  • Master's degree in Occupational Therapy.

Required Certifications and Licenses:

  • New Jersey State Occupational Therapy License.
  • AHA BLS Provider Certification.
  • Registration with the American Occupational Therapy Certification Board.
  • NBCOT registration.
  • Valid Driver's License.

Work Schedule:

  • Full-Time (40 hours/week).
  • Evenings and occasional weekends may be required.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Administer and interpret assessment tools, including history, screening, observations, and evaluations tailored to patients.
  • Identify and prioritize realistic functional goals for remediation, compensation, adaptation, or prevention of deficits.
  • Select, utilize, and evaluate the effectiveness of appropriate treatment methods.
  • Apply activity analysis principles to align the child's or family's abilities with environmental demands.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, and team members in both formal and informal settings.
  • Assist in training other staff members, including COTAs, aides, and students, as needed.
  • Seek supervision or consultation regarding clinical performance and actively engage in improvement plans.
  • Meet competency expectations in explaining symptoms, prognosis, and functional limitations across various diagnostic groups.
  • Make discharge recommendations that consider the child's prognosis, role expectations, and knowledge of community resources.
