Overview:

The Pediatric Occupational Therapist is responsible for delivering therapeutic services to children with disabilities, focusing on their functional adaptation to their surroundings.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Graduation from an accredited Occupational Therapy program.
  • Valid Occupational Therapy License in New Jersey.
  • Active registration with the American Occupational Therapy Certification Board.
  • Successful completion of the NBCOT Certification Examination and maintenance of registration.
  • AHA BLS Provider Certification.
  • Valid Driver's License.
  • Experience in pediatrics through a twelve-week affiliation or relevant pediatric experience.
  • Comprehensive understanding of developmental theories and the impact of physical and perceptual-cognitive disabilities, along with the psychosocial factors affecting functional adaptation.
  • Capability to assess performance disruptions and devise treatment plans to alleviate the disabling effects of these conditions.
  • Demonstrated tact and judgment in executing duties.
  • Commitment to enhancing professional skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.

Preferred:

  • Master's degree in Occupational Therapy.

Certifications and Licenses Required:

  • New Jersey State Occupational Therapy License.
  • AHA BLS Provider Certification.
  • American Occupational Therapy Certification Board registration.
  • NBCOT registration.
  • Valid Driver's License.

Scheduling Requirements:

  • Full-Time (40 hours/week).
  • Availability for evenings and occasional weekends.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Administer and interpret assessment tools as per competency expectations, including history, screening, observations, and evaluations tailored to patients.
  • Identify and prioritize realistic functional goals for remediation, compensation, adaptation, or prevention of deficits.
  • Select, utilize, and evaluate the effectiveness of appropriate treatment methods as per competency expectations.
  • Apply principles of activity analysis to align the child's or family's abilities with environmental demands.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, and team members in both formal and informal settings, including referring physicians and community contacts.
  • Assist in training staff, COTAs, aides, and students as designated in competency expectations.
  • Seek supervision or consultation regarding clinical performance and actively engage in improvement plans, utilizing feedback effectively.
  • Meet competency expectations in explaining symptoms, prognosis, and functional limitations across various diagnostic groups.
  • Make discharge recommendations that consider the child's prognosis, role expectations, and knowledge of community resources.
