Plant Operations Specialist

Job Summary:
As a Plant Engineer III at Kaiser Permanente, you will be responsible for operating and maintaining all plant operations equipment, including boilers, chillers, and HVAC systems. You will also be responsible for operating and maintaining auxiliary equipment necessary to the operation of the medical center and all outlying clinics, such as pumps, motors, and compressors.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate, maintain, inspect, and perform repairs and mechanical alterations to manual and automatic gas and oil fired high pressure steam or high temperature hot water boilers.
- Operate, maintain, inspect, and make repairs to motors, steam reducing stations, expansion tanks, air compressors, supply and exhaust fans, pumps, and valves, steam traps, water treatment systems, water heaters, and related auxiliary equipment.
- Adjust, maintain, and test boiler and air conditioning/refrigeration machinery, and all mechanical, electrical, or pneumatic control instruments.
- Maintain safety devices and make adjustments as necessary.
- Perform electrical repairs, such as bed lamps, non-complex electrical devices, changing ballasts, and repairs electrical line cords, fixing light switches, isolating electrical problems, and replacing fuses.
- Conduct electrical safety tests on equipment, electrical plugs, and outlets.
- Test boiler water, cooling tower water, and water from all other systems. Add chemicals and make appropriate adjustments as dictated by control parameters.
- Unclog pipes and plumbing fixtures and related equipment as necessary.
- Perform routine repairs on equipment, such as stethoscopes, otoscopes, ophthalmoscopes, vacuum units, cart washers, autoclaves, oxygen outlets, air outlets, suction pumps, hospital beds, sinks, toilets, and other associated hospital plant equipment.
Requirements:
- Possession of the LA Unlimited Steam Engineers License and EPA Rule 608 Universal Certification.
- Extensive knowledge of Central Plant, HVAC, and electrical related equipment and systems, ability to troubleshoot electrical and mechanical systems required.
- Working knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local codes required.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Four- (4) years recent experience in building plant operations and maintenance preferred.
- Three -(3) years experience in a hospital setting.
