Amity Foundation is a leading organization dedicated to providing support and services to individuals marginalized by addiction, homelessness, trauma, criminality, incarceration, poverty, racism, sexism, and violence.
We are seeking a compassionate and enthusiastic Advocate (also known as a Case Manager or Social Services Coordinator) to join our team in this groundbreaking opportunity.
The successful candidate will work with our prison programs helping the inmate population, enhancing their training and experience in the field, and promoting re-entry practices.
About the Position
The Advocate will be the direct provider of casework services to participants, including intake, needs assessment, case management plans, and treatment progress monitoring.
Responsibilities
- Provide all program components and services to THP participants, except for job development.
- Conduct initial intake and needs assessments for assigned participants.
- Develop, review, and update Case Management Plans (CMPs) for assigned participants.
- Monitor participant progress and confer with CDCR staff concerning program progress and transition planning.
- Document all progress and services provided in participant files, including employment status, counseling sessions, case conferences, referrals, and disciplinary information.
- Make necessary referrals to outside agencies.
- Develop discharge and post-completion plans.
- Maintain collaborative relationships through effective communication with the Program Director, CDCR liaisons, and THP participants.
- Maintain comprehensive case records and accurate statistical information for THP participants and services.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Social Sciences or a related field; or High school diploma or equivalent and a minimum of two years' experience working with the criminal justice or related population.
- Valid California driver's license and eligibility for Amity vehicle insurance.
- Understanding of causes, symptoms, and effects of long-term incarceration, appreciation for behavioral, psychological, physical, and social effects of imprisonment.
- Recognition of individual differences created by personalities, cultures, lifestyles, social networks, and other factors influencing behavior.
- Demonstrate ability to apply knowledge to re-entry practices.
- Operational knowledge of MS Word, Excel, and Access.
- Ability to integrate and align treatment options with institutional recommendations, participant indications, and evidence-based assessment tool results.
- Excellent interpersonal and communications skills, working effectively with diverse constituencies in the community and within the organization.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision and constructively with diverse people and parties with divergent perspectives and interests.
