Cancer Care Navigators Wanted

We are seeking a dedicated Oncology Patient Navigator to join our team at CHRISTUS Health. This critical role requires a compassionate and skilled professional who can guide patients through their cancer care journey, ensuring they receive comprehensive support beyond clinical treatment.
About the Role
This is an exceptional opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of our patients and their families. As an Oncology Patient Navigator, you will work closely with patients and their loved ones to address their needs, coordinate services, identify and eliminate barriers to care, and provide valuable information about cancer care options.
The primary focus of this role is on enhancing the patient experience by removing obstacles, facilitating access to resources, and offering empathetic support. Our ideal candidate will possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills, as well as the ability to navigate complex healthcare systems and advocate for patients' needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Demonstrate a solid understanding of medical and cancer terminology to effectively communicate with patients and healthcare professionals.
- Familiarize yourself with evidence-based information regarding cancer screening, diagnosis, treatment, and survivorship to provide informed guidance.
- Knowledge of cancer, cancer treatment, and supportive care options, including risks and benefits of clinical trials and integrative therapies, is essential for making informed decisions.
- You will identify potential physical, psychological, social, and spiritual impacts of cancer and its treatment, recognizing the importance of holistic care.
- Understanding of healthcare payment structures, financing, and referring patients for insurance coverage and financial assistance will be vital in addressing patients' concerns.
- Interpersonal and communication skills will enable effective exchange of information and collaboration with patients, families, and healthcare professionals.
- Empathy, integrity, honesty, and compassion will be crucial in difficult conversations, ensuring patients feel supported and understood.
- A basic understanding of cancer, healthcare systems, and patient access to care and services will facilitate navigation and advocacy.
- You will coordinate functions and activities for maximum cooperation and integration of services, promoting seamless care delivery.
- Understanding and implementation of sensitivity and culture of care measures for a diverse population will be essential in providing inclusive care.
Requirements
- A Bachelor's degree is required; a Master's degree in a healthcare-related field is preferred.
- Oncology Patient Navigator Certification (or obtained within 2 years) is necessary for success in this role.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in a healthcare setting, preferably in quality, care coordination, and oncology, will be advantageous.
Work Environment
This role includes working in a well-lighted office area with occasional exposure to patient care areas, requiring flexibility and adaptability.
Physical Requirements
- Closely related tasks require good vision, dexterity to write, and use of a computer keyboard.
- You must be able to handle stressful situations effectively, maintaining composure in challenging circumstances.
