Job Title: Licensed Clinical Social Worker

This position will support the UVA Teen and Young Adult Health Center. We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Licensed Clinical Social Worker to provide therapy to adolescents and young adults. The ideal candidate will have prior experience in providing therapy to this age group and have expertise in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). Experience with eating disorder treatment, substance use treatment, or crisis intervention is highly desirable. A Master's degree in Social Work from a CSWE accredited social work program is required, and licensure to practice independently as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the Commonwealth of Virginia (LCSW) is also required.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide direct social work services to patients and families, including assistance with social and practical environmental problems.
  • Provide emotional support to patients and families who may exhibit feelings of anxiety and stress precipitated by illness and hospitalization.
  • Conduct interventions based on needs identified during initial assessment.
  • Advocate for patient and family wishes when appropriate.
  • Provide emotional support to patients and families during hospitalization.
  • Educate patients and families on the intent of the intervention as needed.
  • Inform the care team of anticipated post-discharge needs.
  • Maintain an acceptable working knowledge of resources needed to provide patients with continuity of care before and after discharge.
  • Participate in in-service and staff development activities.
  • Document all activities relevant to casework, discharge planning, and follow-up in accordance with UVA and Social Work Policy Procedure and Guidelines and regulatory requirements.
  • Participate in education/research activities.
  • Act as liaison between the hospital and outside agencies/legal authorities and referral sources.
  • Act as therapist in daily therapy sessions and provide individual counseling/problem solving sessions as needed.
Requirements:
  • Master's degree in Social Work from a CSWE accredited social work program required.
  • 3 years' experience post-master's required.
  • Licensed to practice as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the Commonwealth of Virginia (LCSW) or applicants with an active license from another state must obtain Virginia LCSW within 18 months of hire date.
Physical Demands:

The job requires sitting for prolonged periods, standing/traveling, or use of assistive devices and climbing (stairs, steps). Proficient communicative, auditory, and visual skills are required, as well as attention to detail, hearing, speaking, seeing, distinguishing colors, reading, and ability to write legibly. Ability to lift/push/pull < 20lbs is also required. May be exposed to chemicals, blood/body fluids, and infectious disease.
