Job Summary

Under the direction of the Chief of Mental Health, the Senior Psychiatrist, Supervisor is responsible for the evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of inmates at the Correctional Treatment Center (CTC) and Mental Health Crisis Bed (MHCB). This includes intervention, weekly individual or group therapy, treatment and discharge planning, participating in interdisciplinary team evaluations, and consultation with psychiatrists, nursing, and other staff.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct comprehensive evaluations and diagnoses of inmates to determine the most effective treatment plans.
  • Develop and implement individualized treatment plans, including medication management and therapy.
  • Provide consultation and guidance to other staff members on mental health-related issues.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary team evaluations to ensure comprehensive care for inmates.
  • Collaborate with psychiatrists, nursing staff, and other healthcare professionals to ensure seamless care.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you must have a strong background in psychiatry and experience working with inmates in a correctional setting. You must also be able to work effectively in a team environment and communicate complex information to patients and staff.

If it is determined an applicant does not meet the Minimum Qualifications, the candidate will be withheld from the eligibility list, rendering them inactive and ineligible to be hired for the position. Candidates who have been withheld may file an appeal with the State Personnel Board.

Candidates new to CDCR or the Division of Juvenile Justice are required to submit to a background investigation process utilizing Live Scan Fingerprinting, and Tuberculosis testing prior to appointment followed by department annual Tuberculosis testing/evaluation thereafter.
