Job Summary

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Para Educator to join our team at Belmont-Redwood Shores Elementary. As a Para Educator, you will play a vital role in supporting the inclusion of students with disabilities in general education classrooms. Your primary responsibility will be to assist the certificated employee in implementing lessons and supporting the inclusion students. This is a 0.675 FTE position, working 27 hours per week.

Responsibilities

• Assist the certificated employee in implementing instructional procedures and recording evaluative student performance data in general education classes and community settings.
• Facilitate and support social interactions and foster the development of positive relationships between students with disabilities and their non-disabled schoolmates.
• Utilize positive strategies to manage student behaviors and provide emotional support and general guidance to students.
• Assist other instructional team members, including teachers, therapists, parents, and administrators, to provide direct services and participate in student planning teams.
• Support students to be active participants on field trips and school assemblies or productions.
• Perform clerical duties as needed and attend meetings and participate in inservice training as assigned.

Requirements

• High School diploma or general education degree (GED).
• Demonstrates tolerant, accepting attitude toward all students and communicates respectfully and effectively with students and other staff members.
• Ability to learn systematic instructional procedures and record keeping systems, strategies to facilitate social relationships between students with disabilities and their non-disabled schoolmates, collaborative teaming skills, and positive management techniques for small groups in classroom, school, and community settings.
• Good English skills and ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
• Ability to speak effectively with parents, faculty, staff, students, and community members with a variety of ethnic backgrounds.
• Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and form valid conclusions.
• Ability to exercise sound judgment and work effectively under pressure.
• Ability to develop and maintain rapport with students, staff, and school officials.
• Ability to maintain an above-average attendance record.
• Ability to work in a one-to-one close relationship with inclusion students working in the classroom and attending to some personal student needs.
• Possession of a valid CPR and First Aid certificate.
