Job Title: Senior Social Welfare Examiner

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Social Welfare Examiner to join our team at Schuyler County New York. As a Senior Social Welfare Examiner, you will be responsible for leading a group of Social Welfare Examiners and clerical employees in establishing financial eligibility for various programs administered by the Social Services Department.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Monitor program compliance and conduct resource verification to ensure client eligibility for programs.
  • Facilitate client referrals for supports and services as appropriate.
  • Use various computer systems to prepare reports and input and extract data.
  • Report findings of fraud investigations and make recommendations regarding the disposition of cases.
  • Prepare case records and provide testimony at administrative or judicial hearings.
  • Attend ongoing trainings to remain knowledgeable of Federal and State laws and policies regarding eligibility programs.
  • Conduct computer matches and prepare client notices, billing statements, and repayment agreements.
  • Perform data entry of IPVs and DCAs and prepare monthly overpayment statistics.
  • Review all claims for accuracy and program compliance and maintain cash assistance management system for all overpayment records.
  • Calculate reimbursements and mortgages for chronic care cases and temporary assistance 104b liens.
Requirements:
  • Completion of two years (60 semester credit hours) of study in a regionally accredited college or university or one accredited by the New York State Board of Regents to grant degrees, two years of work experience, or its part-time equivalent, in examining, investigating or evaluating claims for assistance such as veterans and unemployment benefits, or determining qualifications for insurance or other similar programs operating under established criteria for eligibility.
  • Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and four years of experience as outlined in (A); or
  • An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of (A) and (B) above.
