Role Summary
The Senior Commercial Loan Analyst plays a crucial role in evaluating, interpreting, and confirming the financial standing and overall business data related to current clients and potential loan applications with moderate oversight. This position involves conducting financial assessments necessary for making informed credit decisions, which includes contributing to the loan evaluation process, suggesting credit options that enhance value for the client, and collaborating with the bank's commercial lending team. The analyst is also responsible for preparing annual portfolio assessments, reports, and other essential activities related to the credit function.
Key Responsibilities
- Collects, evaluates, and confirms financial data and general business information for existing clients and prospective loan applications. Investigates and verifies the financial health and creditworthiness of applicants.
- Conducts financial assessments by reviewing applications, analyzing financial data, validating information, and formulating recommendations to determine credit eligibility. Prepares financial statement analyses, risk evaluations, cash flow assessments, compliance testing, collateral evaluations, and credit presentation documents for approval. Engages with borrowers to request updated financial information as needed.
- Assesses various data to effectively determine the level of risk associated with credit extensions. Validates appropriate risk ratings.
- Typically evaluates new loan requests up to $5 million in total debt.
- Typically reviews line of credit renewals up to $5 million in total debt.
- Prepares annual portfolio reviews, reports, and other credit function activities. Proactively monitors the portfolio for line of credit renewals and upcoming maturities.
- Organizes necessary documentation to support findings and presents recommendations for approval or denial of requests.
- May accompany lenders on client visits or contact borrowers and accountants during the underwriting process for information.
- Prepares and reviews periodic reports in a timely manner for distribution to bank directors and officers, as assigned by the supervisor.
- Demonstrates a solid understanding and adherence to bank credit policies.
- Maintains measurements, reporting, and other activities to ensure compliance with all state and federal regulations (such as the Fair Credit Reporting Act, Truth in Lending Act, etc.), OCC regulations, etc.
- Supports programs, systems, and software related to the lending function.
- Maintains awareness and compliance with the bank's internal policies, procedures, laws, and regulations relevant to this position.
- Assists in responding to regulatory and internal/external audit requests.
- Travels as necessary to perform other essential functions.
Qualifications and Experience
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in a commercial credit role within a financial services organization.
- Proficient knowledge and demonstrated experience in analyzing financial information (tax returns, financial statements, etc.) and credit scoring methodologies.
- Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills, enabling effective interaction with all levels of bank personnel and external contacts.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Statistics, Business, or equivalent experience.
- Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Windows and Office Suite (Excel, Word) or other relevant software applications.
- Strong customer service orientation, attention to detail, and adaptability to diverse situations.
- Valid driver's license and a driving record that complies with company policy.

- Ability to work effectively in an office environment for 40+ hours per week (including sitting, standing, and working on a computer for extended periods).
- Ability to communicate effectively in a collaborative work environment using various technologies such as telephone, computer, web, voice, teleconferencing, email, etc.
- Ability to travel as required.
- Ability to operate a vehicle in accordance with the driving policy.
