Position Summary

The Elementary Service Assistant plays a vital role in facilitating the operations and ministry functions associated with Elementary services on Sundays and Wednesdays. This position is focused on nurturing relationships with volunteers through prayer, support, and encouragement, ensuring the holistic wellbeing of the children entrusted to our care. Collaboration with the Elementary team on various initiatives is essential, along with a commitment to fostering a strong team environment and aligning with the church's vision.

Work Schedule:

  • Sundays: 7:00 am - 1:30 pm (6.5 hours)
  • Wednesdays: 5:30 pm - 9:00 pm (3.5 hours)
  • Flexible weekday hours for room setup assistance (2 hours)

Key Responsibilities

Volunteer Engagement:

  • Demonstrate strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively convey vision and motivation to the volunteer team.
  • Enhance team cohesion within the Elementary Dream Teams by fostering connections and relationships among volunteers.
  • Follow up with team leaders who were absent during services.
  • Send personalized birthday and get-well cards to team members as needed.

Ministry Duties for Sunday & Wednesday:

  • Assist the Elementary Venue Coordinator and Campus Lead in overseeing the management of services and volunteer teams.
  • Help prepare Elementary classrooms for services.
  • Restock classroom supplies as necessary.
  • Collect and record Salvation cards, maintaining accurate records.
  • Submit reports to communicate Salvation counts.
  • Ensure all preparations for each service are completed.
  • Conduct team huddles as directed by the Venue Coordinator, providing necessary information and prayer support.
  • Welcome and assist first-time guests and their families:
  • Guide parents to rooms and assist with children's check-in.
  • Ensure all follow-up systems for new guests are implemented.
  • Maintain cleanliness and ensure all ministry items are appropriately managed post-service.
  • Adhere to all Elementary policies and procedures consistently.

Family Interaction & Child Guidance:

  • Actively involve parents and families in church activities.
  • Provide follow-up support for families in need.
  • Address and document any disciplinary actions involving children.
  • Promote a culture of encouragement in line with the core values of James River Church.

Large Group Responsibilities:

  • Familiarize with the ministry plan and flow during large group settings.
  • Effectively communicate the vision of each series to group leaders.
  • Encourage active participation from all leaders during worship and prayer.
  • Lead the team in maintaining discipline during large group experiences.
  • Organize and guide teams when specific responses are required from small group leaders.
  • While not mandatory, the ability to lead and teach from the stage is preferred.

Special Events Participation:

  • Engage actively in events such as the October 31st Party, Easter services, Christmas celebrations, Kids Camp, and other church-wide activities as needed.

Job Requirements

  • Position requires moderate physical activity, including the ability to move between the floor and standing positions, actively participate in activities, and remain engaged for extended periods.

Childcare Policy:

  • All employees must arrange childcare for their children aged 6 months through 6th grade during service times.
  • Children are not permitted in service areas during work hours.
  • Sick children are not allowed on premises.

Attendance Expectations:

  • Responsibilities must be covered in case of absences.
  • Absences should not exceed four Sundays per year.
