About Domestic Violence Services (DVS)

DV S is a leading provider of comprehensive support services to survivors of domestic violence and their families. Our mission is to empower victims to live free from abuse, and we take pride in our network of over 55 emergency shelters that provide temporary housing and supportive services.

We are currently seeking four Eligibility Specialists to join our team as part of the Domestic Violence Liaison Division/AVENT Division. As an Eligibility Specialist, you will play a critical role in determining eligibility for public assistance programs, providing information about benefits, and encouraging financial independence through employment.

Job Responsibilities

  • Determine eligibility for public assistance programs for clients referred to the Domestic Violence Liaison Special Services Unit
  • Conduct thorough interviews to assess continued financial eligibility and issue accurate benefits according to agency guidelines
  • Provide information about transitional benefits to promote financial independence through employment
  • Identify and address special needs in a timely manner
  • Authorize statistical and financial changes in assistance and/or budgets resulting from valid information received
  • Maintain a caseload by managing time effectively and completing tasks efficiently
  • Accurately complete Fair Hearing/Aid to Continue compliance and resolutions within prescribed deadlines

Requirements

  • Completion of 30 semester credits at an accredited college or university; or
  • A high school diploma or its educational equivalent and one year of full-time satisfactory experience in one or more of the following areas:
    • Interviewing, gathering information, and preparing necessary documentation for public assistance or unemployment, health benefits, social security, insurance, or participation in social services or community programs
    • Bookkeeping, bank teller duties, housing office teller duties, purchasing agent, assistant store manager, sales representative responsible for accounts, or customer service duties
    • Dealing with social service agencies, legal representatives, or aiding individuals in navigating housing, social, financial, or health problems or application systems
  • A satisfactory combination of education and/or experience equivalent to the above requirements

Salary and Benefits

The estimated salary range for this position is $65,000 - $85,000 per year, based on the City's salary scale. As a City employee, you will be eligible for a comprehensive benefits package, including health insurance, retirement plan, and paid time off.

Residency Requirement

New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment, but certain City employees may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County after two continuous years of service.
