Job Overview:

The Manager is accountable for overseeing the development and execution of laboratory, service, and field initiatives, policies, and procedures from both a functional and technical standpoint. This includes validating and auditing results, coordinating services, and addressing service and customer issues across the department. The role involves providing expert assistance to management in various assignments and related matters, often in complex and diverse areas. The Manager may supervise one or more domains such as chemistry, biology, microbiology, field operations, client services, or related sectors.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and develop staff through hiring, training, performance evaluation, and engagement strategies.
  • Oversee the implementation and management of schedules, services, and operational programs to achieve targeted results, ensuring alignment of leadership and resources.
  • Advise on the development and alignment of strategies and programs for managing laboratory, service, or field operations.
  • Conduct operational reviews of instrumentation and equipment, ensuring compliance with applicable standards and regulations.
  • Provide insights and recommendations to enhance organizational policies and practices related to laboratory and service operations.
  • Manage expectations and facilitate communication among leaders, managers, staff, and clients, establishing performance metrics.
  • Resolve escalated technical or sensitive customer and operational issues, collaborating with internal and external parties as necessary.
  • Administer the departmental budget, including resource allocation and expenditure approvals.
  • Participate in special projects by identifying and prioritizing departmental or service-related issues.
  • Stay informed on laboratory, service, and field regulations, industry trends, and best practices.
  • Contribute to the department's efficiency and effectiveness by actively participating in work teams and offering suggestions for improvement.
  • Promote a cooperative and respectful workplace environment, aligning with Pace Analytical's mission.

Qualifications:

Education and Experience:

A Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, biology, environmental science, or a closely related field, along with five years of relevant experience, typically in a supervisory role; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. A minimum of three years in a supervisory capacity is highly preferred.

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • In-depth understanding of laboratory, service, or field principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of program development and implementation in relevant areas.
  • Ability to develop teams and motivate employees in a collaborative environment.
  • Familiarity with budget development and administration.
  • Understanding of applicable laws, codes, and regulations in the laboratory and service sectors.
  • Proficiency in relevant computer applications and systems.
  • Experience in engaging with diverse individuals, particularly in challenging situations.
  • Effective oral presentation skills.
  • Skills in program planning, development, and evaluation.
