Job Title: Assistant Director of Accounting and Finance

Campus Auxiliary Services at SUNY Geneseo is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Assistant Director of Accounting and Finance to join our team. As a key member of our financial operations team, you will play a critical role in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of our financial data, as well as supporting the financial health of our organization.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Oversee the daily operations of the accounting department, ensuring compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations, as well as organizational policies and procedures.
  • Lead the annual budget creation process and provide analysis on budget variances.
  • Coordinate and support audits, ensuring timely resolution of audit findings.
  • Conduct process improvements to identify opportunities and implement best practices to enhance efficiency and accuracy of financial operations.
  • Engage in cost reduction initiatives and collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and implement cost-saving initiatives, process improvements, and efficiency measures.
  • Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
  • Oversee accounts payable and receivable processes, including analyzing end-of-month financial reports and outstanding accounts payable and accounts receivable.
  • Responsible for cash management, including bank transfers and company's positive pay programs.
  • Reconcile meal plans and other various account receivables with SUNY Geneseo records.
  • Complete a monthly review of the company's trial balance to ensure accuracy and compliance in reporting.
  • Manage and mentor accounting and business office employees.
  • Develop and implement accounting policies and procedures to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and best practices.
  • Monitor internal controls to safeguard the organization's assets and ensure the accuracy of financial records.
  • Prepare and review financial statements, budgets, and forecasts.
  • Provide financial advice by studying operational issues, applying financial principles and practices, and developing recommendations.
  • Conduct various analyses to provide feedback on organizational performance, trends, and forecasts.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field. Minimum of five years of accounting experience; or equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
  • CPA certification preferred but not required.
