Position Overview:
The City of Fort Lauderdale is seeking dedicated professionals who exhibit a strong commitment to public service, characterized by enthusiasm, independence, and expertise in their roles.

Role Responsibilities:
This position involves significant financial, administrative, and supervisory responsibilities, assisting senior financial leaders such as the Chief Accountant, Controller, or Treasurer. Key duties include:

  • Executing advanced accounting functions, including general ledger reconciliation and financial reporting.
  • Preparing for audits and managing grant reporting and payroll processes.
  • Reviewing and preparing comprehensive financial reports for management and other departments.
  • Conducting monthly account reconciliations to ensure accuracy in financial records.
  • Collaborating with internal and external auditors to facilitate audits and provide necessary documentation.
  • Preparing journal entries and making account adjustments to maintain data integrity.
  • Creating detailed financial statements and supporting documentation for the City's Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR).
  • Identifying and resolving financial discrepancies and inquiries.
  • Managing timely payroll tax payments for both employer and employee contributions.
  • Participating in the formulation of citywide and departmental budgets and monitoring expenditures throughout the fiscal year.
  • Engaging in project management for new financial management systems and collaborating with IT for system enhancements.

Minimum Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related discipline, along with three to five years of professional accounting or fiscal management experience, including at least two years in governmental accounting or auditing.

Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in local government accounting or fiscal management is highly desirable.

Special Requirements:
Essential Employees may be required to work during emergencies as determined by the Department Head.

Physical Requirements:
This role is primarily sedentary, requiring the ability to sit for extended periods while occasionally walking or standing.
