Cloud Infrastructure Automation Specialist

UCLA Health IT is seeking a talented
Cloud Infrastructure Automation Specialist with a robust background in cloud infrastructure automation to become a vital member of the Solutions Architecture and Engineering's (SAE) High-Performance Computing (HPC) Team.
The primary goal of the SAE team is to ensure our cloud infrastructure remains ahead of customer growth, focusing on service reliability, performance, efficiency, and security.
This role involves assisting in the creation, management, optimization, and automation of the software ecosystem for our HPC clusters, as well as research and clinical environments.
Key Responsibilities:
- Participate in the design, development, automation, and operation of infrastructure and applications centered on Analytics Platform Cloud technologies.
- Diagnose and resolve environmental issues while developing monitoring solutions and tools to automate daily operational tasks.
- Collaborate with clients and team members to understand stakeholder requirements, guiding the analysis and design of technical solutions within our AWS Cloud environments.
- Design and implement build, release, deployment, and configuration activities for infrastructure and applications; focus on pipeline automation, optimization, and management.
- Work independently and collaboratively with the team and internal groups to gather requirements, prototype, architect, implement/update solutions, create and execute test plans, conduct quality reviews, manage operations, and address operational challenges.
- Availability to be onsite at least three days per quarter, with the ability to be onsite within two weeks of request.

Compensation:
$116,500 - $282,300 annually, commensurate with experience and equity.
Qualifications:
- BS/MS in Computer Science or a related field.
- Preferred certifications: AWS Certified Cloud DevOps Engineer, DevSecOps Engineer, Architect, Administrator.
- Azure certifications are advantageous.
- 7+ years of experience in Infrastructure Automation.
- 5+ years of experience with GitHub or other SDLC/Version Control Systems.
- 7+ years of expertise as an AWS Cloud Engineer, with knowledge of core services and offerings; Azure experience is a plus.
- 10+ years of experience with Windows and Linux servers, enterprise system support, and a solid background in systems engineering and administration.
- Advanced knowledge of enterprise-scale technologies, including server platforms, desktop platforms, Exchange environments, Active Directory, web servers, Windows clustering, virtualization, and collaboration tools.
- Familiarity with disciplined SDLC development workflows using GitHub, Pull Requests, Issues, etc.
- Experience in DevOps pipeline development in a real-time operational role for Infrastructure as Code (IaC), software, and Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD).
- Proficiency in scripting with GitHub Actions, Terraform, CloudFormation Templates, ARM Templates, Ansible, Puppet, etc.
- Ability to automate and optimize processes using tools like Jenkins, Chef, Puppet, Docker, Kubernetes, etc.
- Advanced knowledge of AWS and Azure service offerings, including compute design, provisioning, and tuning.
- Expertise in AWS core services such as EC2, S3, KMS, VPC, Direct Connect, and other AWS Infrastructure and Services.
- Proficient in supporting and deploying cloud computing services, covering IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS deployments, with the ability to troubleshoot complex issues.
- Strong understanding of system administration and security protocols for client/server environments deployed using Linux, with working knowledge of Windows.
- Advanced understanding of high availability, high performance, multi-data center systems, and potentially hybrid cloud environments.
- Experience with logging and monitoring tools such as Amazon CloudWatch, Azure Monitor, LogicMonitor, DataDog, ELK Stack (Elasticsearch, Logstash, Kibana), Grafana, Prometheus, etc.
- Experience with HPC products/platforms is a plus.
- Familiarity with bioinformatics infrastructure is advantageous.
- Citrix experience is a plus.
