Job Title: Live Data Center Technician

About the Role:

We are seeking a highly skilled Data Center Technician to join our team. As a Data Center Technician, you will be responsible for supporting servers at our customer's data centers. The ideal candidate will have strong technical skills, including hardware, IT, and cabling management, as well as excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare, stage, and set up data center hardware for startups and shutdowns, following standard procedures and protocols.
  • Perform diagnostics and troubleshooting to quickly identify and resolve issues, replacing faulty components as needed.
  • Verify that grounding, staging, labeling, and cabling are set up properly, following safety protocols and deployment standards.
  • Decommission hardware for simple changes and refreshes, following standard procedures.
  • Communicate and report incidents to management, escalating as necessary.
  • Participate in daily safety briefings, complete required safety training, and comply with safety procedures.
  • Contribute to a positive team environment by sharing information, participating in team meetings, and staying apprised of others' work.
  • Proactively share relevant information to enable efficient workflow and mitigate the impact of changes.
  • Complete assigned tickets efficiently, meeting or exceeding established Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
  • Display accountability and ownership of the data center facilities, maintaining a strong client focus.

Requirements:

  • Exceptional server hardware knowledge, including deep understanding of component and system type failures.
  • Ability to assist in conducting failure analysis on field issues.
  • Ability to track server fleet health to investigate emerging failure trends and validate customer SLA.
  • Solid experience with IPMI utilization in diagnostics.
  • Administer software tools, including diagnostics, tests, and firmware updates.
  • Experience in real-time issue resolution during new deployments.
  • Experienced with Windows Server OS and WinPE OS administration.
  • Experience with Linux PXE services a plus.
  • Basic Linux and Windows scripting experience.
  • Network troubleshooting of Layer-1, Layer-2, and Layer-3.
  • Virtual Machine setup and environment configurations.
  • Ability to work autonomously and within a local or geographically dispersed team environment.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of experience as a data center technician.
  • Associate degree in computer science, computer engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • CompTIA A+ or equivalent experience.
  • CompTIA Server+ or equivalent experience.
  • CCENT or equivalent experience.
  • Windows OS experience.
  • CCNA certification preferred.
  • MCP/MSCE certification preferred.
  • Scripting experience preferred – PowerShell, Python, Bash.
  • The ability to lift up to 35 pounds when necessary.
  • The ability to safely climb ladders when necessary.
  • The ability to wear personal protective gear correctly when necessary.
  • The ability to stand and walk throughout the facility for extended periods without loss or reduction of productivity.
