Automation Control Specialist

We are seeking a dedicated Automation Control Specialist to join our team.

Job Overview:
The Automation Control Specialist will take charge of all software-related aspects of diverse machinery and tooling initiatives. These projects may range from small-scale research and development tasks to extensive production systems. The specialist will collaborate with clients to ascertain their project needs and specifications.

These assignments will typically involve multiple disciplines, and the specialist will engage with other team members to provide a cohesive and effective solution.


Key Responsibilities:


• Develop, test, install, and integrate software solutions for custom automation, machine vision, feedback systems, robotics, and data management.
• Program and integrate various off-the-shelf components including cameras, robots, sensors, and motors.
• Ensure adherence to project budgets and timelines.
• Communicate progress and challenges with Project Managers.
• Assist the production team during debugging, commissioning, and equipment installation.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams for mechanical and electrical integration.
• Manage external suppliers and coordinate with clients to refine project requirements.
• Support the deployment and servicing of equipment at client locations.

Some travel may be required for this role.

Qualifications:
• Minimum of 1 year of experience in software development for PLCs or similar devices; educational experience is acceptable.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD or SolidWorks for creating wiring diagrams.
• At least 1 year of experience in a controls design role within an industrial automation or machine building environment.

Desired Technical Skills:

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in an engineering discipline.
• Knowledge and experience in programming and tuning servomotors, stepper motors, and VFD-controlled motors.
• Familiarity with Vision Systems (Cognex, Keyence, etc.) and Robot Systems (Fanuc, ABB, Kuka, Mitsubishi, Epson, etc.).
• Experience with field devices (sensors and actuators), digital and analog I/O signal processing, and interfacing techniques.
• Proficiency in one or more programming languages (VB.NET or C preferred).
• Basic understanding of HMI/GUI and PLC development environments.
• Knowledge of .NET and COM/ActiveX environments and SDK/APIs implementation.
• Understanding of various communication protocols (RS232, Ethernet/IP, Modbus).
• Direct experience troubleshooting automated equipment.
• Ability to interpret electrical and pneumatic schematics and mechanical drawings.

Travel Requirements:
• Up to 10% travel to various suppliers, collaborators, and client sites.
