Purina Feed Sales Representative Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Feed Sales Representative to join our team at Land O'Lakes, Inc. in the Leigh, Nebraska territory. As a Feed Sales Representative, you will be responsible for selling feed and related products to livestock and lifestyle animal owners, with a primary focus on beef cattle.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Evaluate existing feeding programs and recommend and assist customers with their nutritional programs.
  • Sell and consult at the farm gate, with the end goal of selling Purina products and programs and growing sales and market share.
  • Organize and conduct educational meetings and events for 4H clubs, saddle clubs, vets, trainers, and lifestyle show clubs to enhance Purina's brand image and sell product.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Animal Science or related field strongly desired.
  • Candidates with a pending bachelor's degree or proven sales and industry experience may be considered.
  • Previous sales experience highly desired.
  • Basic command of making nutritional and feeding recommendations to livestock animal owners.
  • Strong computer skills, specifically MS Office, and ability to be trained on ration balancing software (HerdSmart), Salesforce, etc.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organization and time management skills.
  • High internal drive, natural ability for relationship building, and leadership in a team environment.
  • Ability to network in the industry to put producers together to earn additional business and relationships.
Travel Requirements:
  • 15% overnight travel, in addition to daily travel in the assigned geography.

This is a sales role that is compensated with a target mix of base salary plus commission. Base salary is dependent upon experience/tenure and generally ranges between $50,000-$60,000. Commission is driven by individual performance.
