About Our Team

The Head of Credit Investment Strategies will be an integral part of the KREI Credit team, one of three primary divisions within KREI, alongside Assets and Platforms. Currently, the KREI Credit team primarily engages in three investment strategies: leveraged lending, liquid investments, and structured capital investments. The Director will specifically concentrate on structured capital investments, which encompass subordinate debt, preferred equity, and specialized finance investments in real estate assets and operating entities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Actively identify and evaluate structured capital investment opportunities by leveraging industry connections, including investment banks, advisory firms, mortgage brokers, major banks, and direct principal relationships.
  • Lead and collaborate with deal teams responsible for the comprehensive review of complex investment opportunities, from inception to completion, including assessing key stakeholders' objectives, underwriting real estate collateral, and developing and analyzing asset and corporate-level capital structures.
  • Create and negotiate innovative capital solutions that address key transaction risks while being advantageous for all parties involved.
  • Present investment opportunities, facilitate internal screening discussions, and deliver recommendations to the investment committee regarding deal-level decisions.
  • Work in partnership with KREI associates on structured transactions and explore new strategic alliances to enhance capital solutions.
  • Supervise the management of investments post-closing, which includes annual business planning, ad hoc reporting, integration with asset management, and strategic decisions to maximize financial performance.
  • Alongside KREI leadership, conduct ongoing industry and market research to proactively generate structured capital and credit investment opportunities.
Qualifications
  • A minimum of 7 years of experience in real estate investment banking, private equity, or commercial real estate finance.
  • Strong understanding of commercial real estate capital markets and experience in structuring credit investments.
  • Institutional experience in preparing and presenting investment memorandums.
  • Willingness and ability to travel over 20% of the time.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 10 or more years of experience, encompassing both debt and equity.
  • Proven track record in leading commercial real estate transactions across various segments of the capital stack.
  • Familiarity with term loans, unsecured debt, convertible debt, participating preferred investments, warrants, and combinations of these financial instruments and structures.
  • Knowledge of public and private REIT structures and real estate operating businesses.
  • Established relationships with key market participants.
  • Exposure to diverse commercial real estate product types, including niche sectors.
  • JD, LLM, or other legal qualifications.
